Three unidentified gunmen wearing military uniforms on Saturday killed two persons, identified as Abdul Rehman and Muhammad Nawaz, said an official of the Gomal police station.
The bodies of the deceased were then thrown on the street in Kot Azam area of Gomal, about 25 kilometres west of Tank city.
The official said the police registered a case and a search operation has been launched to nab the assailants. The motive behind the murders, however, has not yet been ascertained.
Another security official said the men dressed in uniform are suspected terrorists and killed the two civilians after entering their homes. He said they were investigating the incident to determine whether it is a case of personal enmity or an act of terror.
Nawaz’s brother Mumtaz and Rehman’s brother Shabaran lodged the FIR. Mumtaz said three uniformed men broke into their house, woke them up and whisked Nawaz away.
Shabaran narrated a similar story where three uniformed men brought Nawaz along with them, asked for Rehman and then took him away as well.
Both men were later killed and their bodies dumped on the street, said the police official.
Nawaz belonged to the Bughan tribe and Rehman belonged to the Kati Khel tribe. The two were said to be friends. They were often seen together, but it is still unclear why and by whom they were killed.
The police official said that more information will be divulged once investigation is complete.
