Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources says LPG-air mixture is an option which can augment natural gas supplies through economically possible ways.
The ministry was responding to criticism from the All Pakistan CNG Association, which opposed a plan to inject LPG-air mixture into natural gas pipelines to boost supply and ease shortage.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the ministry felt that the criticism was the result of a lack of understanding of the energy mix in Pakistan.
It said Pakistan was facing acute shortage of natural gas following increasing demand and depleting domestic resources. This, it said, prompted the government to pursue a policy of supplementing natural gas supplies through technical and economically possible ways.
“A feasibility study conducted by Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL) has proved technical and economic feasibility of this (LPG-air mixture),” it said.
