ISLAMABAD:

Automated metres will help reduce line losses and enhance the revenue generated by the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO).

IESCO spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said on Thursday said the metres were installed in sector G-9 in a pilot project. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the USAID.

He said the metres will be installed at areas where there is high ratio of power theft, such as Rawat, to get accurate data on power consumption.

“The device will take picture of the data of a meter which will help the company redress consumers’ grievances of over or undercharges and to ensure the bill reflect consumer’s usage accurately,” he said.

“The metres will provide highly accurate electronic meter readings with very little human intervention, using computer technology to transmit meter readings data via GSM/GPRS and Radio Frequency; however, meter readers have also been imparted training,” Ahmad added.

Ziaur Rahman, director communication of the project, said the project is being launched as a model for the five distribution companies.
