PESHAWAR:

Security forces demolished six houses and arrested 38 people in a day-long search operation in Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar on Wednesday, said a local elder.

Those arrested have been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation, he added.

“Earlier we heard that around two dozen suspects have been arrested, but now it is confirmed that 38 men from two villages of Sambi Khel and Bashi Khel in Kandao Asho Khel have been taken into custody,” said the elder requesting anonymity.

The demolished houses belonged to those who were arrested by security forces in an earlier operation.

The operation was launched on Tuesday after contingents of the military entered the Kandhao Asho Khel area and surrounded the villages.

This is the second operation carried out by security forces in recent months. The first operation was conducted following the kidnapping of 23 levies personnel after Taliban militants stormed three security checkpoints in Koi Hassan Khel, Zakhi Sar, Musa Darra and Jani Khwar areas of FR Peshawar on December 26, 2012.

On December 29, Taliban militants executed 21 of them and dumped their bodies in a nullah near Koi Hassan Khel area.
