
The protest against the killing of 18 Bara tribesmen in front of the Governor House on Wednesday brought traffic to a standstill.
Roads near the provincial assembly, Cantt and Saddar were blocked for all traffic, while road closures near Deans Trader Centre and the General Bus Stand caused bumper-to-bumper traffic on the congested roads of Shoba and Khyber bazaars.
Police personnel were deployed alongside traffic wardens to help streamline the flow of vehicles.
Many students found it hard to reach home after protesters reached the Governor House around midday, clogging up surrounding roads started to clog up.
It has become common practice for officials to block roads when an incident occurs in the city, without taking into account the daily routine of residents, said a student, Gohar Ali.
In another incident, MNA Hameedullah Jan Afridi’s guard injured a protester when he fired his AK-47 in the air to protect Afridi from an unruly mob. Yar Bacha, 23, was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, severely wounded. Till last reports, Bacha was in the neurosurgical ward in a very critical condition.
