Election petition: MNA Nawab Sher Waseer disqualified

A two-member bench passed the order on an appeal moved by Munir Ahmad, a resident of Jaranwala in Faisalabad district.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Tuesday disqualified Pakistan People’s Party (MNA) MNA Malik Nawab Sher Waseer, who was elected from NA-76 (Faisalabad), for accumulating assets beyond his declared income and concealing his dismissal as a government employee from the court. A two-member bench of Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan and Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti passed the order on an appeal moved by Munir Ahmad, a resident of Jaranwala in Faisalabad district.  The appellant submitted that Waseer had not declared all his assets when submitting his nomination papers for the 2008 general elections. Ahmad said that MNA Malik Nawab Sher Waseer had also been dismissed from government service on charges of misconduct and corruption, so under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, he was not eligible to run for the National Assembly. The division bench, which had reserved its judgment, ruled on Tuesday that the MNA should be disqualified from the assembly.
