KARACHI: Winless Sialkot displayed spirited bowling to dismiss second-placed Group I rivals Islamabad for 193 in their fourth round’s opening day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Sialkot – who are currently at the bottom of the table with a loss and a draw – seemed eager for their first win of the tournament, thanks to a four-wicket haul for 27 runs by left-arm spinner Nayyar Abbas, who was included in the team for the first time in the competition.

Umaid Asif and Prince Abbas took a brace each while Imad Wasim top-scored for Islamabad with an unbeaten 70. Sialkot ended the day at 10 for one.

In another match, Sohaib Maqsood blasted 107 off 142 balls to help Multan score 268 for eight against Lahore Ravi. Maqsood, along with Naved Yasin (80), added 176 for the fourth wicket after Multan lost three wickets with just 20 runs on board. Spinner Adnan Rasool took four for 81 and was supported by Asif Ashfaq’s two wickets for Ravi.

In Group II, Faisalabad were bundled out for 226 in 72.1 overs against Rawalpindi after a commendable bowling performance from Sadaf Hussain and Haseeb Azam who took four and three wickets respectively at the Mirpur Stadium.

Mohammad Salman was impressive with the bat, chipping in with an unbeaten 70 while Moazzam Hayat (52) was the other batsman to score a half-century. Rawalpindi concluded the day with two for one.

Meanwhile in another group fixture, Hyderabad scored 255 for six in 86 overs against top placed Karachi Whites at the Niaz Stadium.

Sharjeel Khan’s 64 was complemented by an unbeaten 80 from Rizwan Ahmed, while Atif Maqbool claimed four wickets for Whites.
