PESHAWAR:

A local city court on Saturday sent former station house officer (SHO) of Badabher police station to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

Earlier, Abdul Ghani, a resident of Mattani, filed a petition before the Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan accusing SHO Abdul Qadir of illegally detaining his brother Abdul Wali.

Following Ghani’s complaint, the PHC issued a notice to the police official. On January 9, Qadir appeared before the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Kulsoom Azam seeking pre-arrest bail.

The request, however, was turned down by the court and he was arrested from the court premises and kept in police custody for a 24-hour physical remand.

Upon his appearance before judicial magistrate Ilyas Khan on Saturday, Qadir was sent to central prison, Peshawar on a 14-day judicial remand.

Apart from detaining Wali in illegal custody, Qadir is also facing corruption charges during his service at the Badabher police station.
