Pakistan, on the other hand, summoned the Indian ambassador on Friday to protest against “unacceptable and unprovoked” attacks by the Indian army that killed two Pakistani soldiers in five days in Kashmir.
On Tuesday, India said two of its soldiers were killed by Pakistani troops and that one of them was beheaded in the disputed Himalayan region, which is claimed in full by both India and Pakistan but ruled in part by each.
Both sides claim responding to firing and neither is willing to admit which side fired first.
The United States has urged the nuclear-armed rivals to cool tensions along the heavily militarised LoC.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority territory, has been the cause of two of their three wars since independence from Britain in 1947.

@Avenger: From the accounts of independent observers, 1947 was a Pak victory, 1965 was a staelmate and 1971 was a lost because Pakistan army was fighting with one hand tied behind its back in a civil war. Be that as it may, why do you people still harp on about Indira Gandhi's comment that 1971 War was India's revenge for 1000 years of Muslim rule over South Asia. Just grow up and work for peace between the two nations. My Afghan friends have told me that you will hear Bollywood songs played in most trucks, taxis and cars in Afghanistan, even today. In Pakistan songs from Bollywood movies are played as is. But, in Afghanistan there are several bands that translate latest Bollywood songs in Pashto and play them. In US also there are such Afghan music bands. Afghanistan is not all Taliban. Dara Singh had been the most popular Indian actor in Afghanistan and Iran for many, many years.

He said that if Pakistan has not cooperated, US and India would have cooperated and obliterated Pakistan. He was the President Army Chief and in full control of Pakistan then. US and others are never going to forget that OBL was in Pakistan for over 6 years and was found so close to Pakistan Army's compound. If US can spend trillion dollar, it can and shall spend few billions more to ensure that islamic terrorism is wiped out completely. Taking care of Pakistan will dissuade such terror activities throughout the world, for ever. Indian media is reporting that Pakistan army is getting the villages vacated along the LoC however the same steps are not being taken on the Indian side. These steps indicate that Pak military is desperate to start something to get out of the mess it has created in the country and divert the attention of its people of the external threat on its Eastern border.
It is possible that the Shias will fight on side of India. At least in India they dont kill Shias. I and many of my brothers have lost our trust and faith in Pakistan. Even Human Rights Watch says that establishment has hand in killing shias.

I think if india uses its so-called "other options" then pakistan should go for an all out war against india , this will make TTP also to infiltrate in kashmir side occupied by india as they are desperately trying but not allowed by pakistani army. TTP offered pakistan army that if the they let TTP cross LOC to lodge attacks on indian army then they can have a cease fire with pakistan army in FATA. Why pakistan army does not take services of TTP against indian army when TTP is glady aspiring for that.
A week ago I wrote that India / Pakistan war in imminent this summer. Dr. Khan, Iran and Libya have exposed sufficiently on Pakistan's nuclear capabilities. So, it is no longer a major concern in the Indian military circles. India knew about it much earlier and pounded Pakistan Army during Kargil. It may have factored these in the cold start doctrine also. Pakistan has fissile material with which it can make dirty bomb. If it has a nuclear bomb is doubtful. We have also seen decades old and obsolete technology of Pakistan's missiles that fell over KP recently. Even if Pakistan has the real nukes, what makes them think that they can ever bring it out of the storage with US and NATO forces sitting there? Pakistan's missiles (whatever it has) shall be blown up immediately. Drones collect data not just on talibans. They collect other data also. We have also seen the courage of Pakistani army as the talibans exposed them repeatedly and Kayani kept shivering. May be he is on his way to China already. If China does not come up with a strong statement in a few days, not just talk about mountains and seas, you will know where Pakistan stands. What makes Pakistan think that China would support Pakistan on Kashmir? For all you know, China and India may both be working to split amongst themselves the entire Kashmir region including that Pakistan occupies. This would take care of the Islamic problem in the region once and for all and also provide a convenient access to both countries to Afghanistan. Prosperous and peaceful Afghanistan will not become an Islamic fanatic. China has invested $6 billion in Afghanistan and India has invested $2billion there. Both would not allow their investment to be lost or Afghanistan to be controlled by terrorists although Pakistan may want Afghanistan to be controlled by the taliban fanatics. In their hate for India, Pakistan forgot Chinese investment in Afghanistan. China, more than India would protect their investment in Afghanistan and they have the capability to do so.
As for this recent flare up, it is not just this border incidence. It is the simmering effect of many of Pakistan's continued actions. These include conversions of hindu girls, inaction in Mumbai terror, mass migration of hindus from Pakistan, destruction of temples, desecration of graves, blasphemy laws, etc. Such atrocities by Pakistan were hidden and not known to many earlier. With US and West turning against Pakistan, the media has highlighted these. Youtube brought thousands of videos and it would be stupid for Pakistanis to think that only Indians watched these. The whole world watched these and they now have their opinion. Pakistanis made it worse for themselves by their stupid actions and inactions. US and West are not going to forget the $1 trillion loss to their economy due to terrorism. All terror activities anywhere in the world had a Pakistan connection.
If a war has to be avoided, Pakistan should take strong action on all those who are responsible for Mumbai terror activities and also on the issues of conversions, blasphemy, etc. It cannot just allow Hafiz Saeed to continue recruiting terrorists to kill Indian soldiers as he is doing now in the Kashmir region. If Pakistan presents an opportunity, it shall be used.

I am from Sargodha, Pakistan and what i understand is both sides portray totally different picture of what is going on.To talk of war between two nuclear armed nations is sheer madness.Why not involve United Nations and let them conduct an inquiry and decide who is at fault and even if Pakistan is at found at fault, at-least we will know the truth and then may be we can move on. Other wise things can escalate in a spiral chain of events.Lets hope sanity prevails.

The IAF chief knows exactly who he is dealing with. He wouldn't have said this to any other country. He has ample evidence of that. Let's see if we can recount a few - Abbottabad, Salala, numerous cases where Pakistan army simply put down weapons in their hundreds at the slightest signs of challenge from militants. On the other hand there are cases like Memogate where they hounded the government. So he has a pretty good idea of the type of fellows he is dealing with.
Having said that, India should play this with caution. This is exactly what we should have expected. The Pakistani establishment is back to its old games, knowing fully well that they are in a real trouble in Pakistan, with democratic transition about to happen for the first time with them having no role in it. Even if we have to drink this anger, we should do it in the larger strategic interest of long term peace between India and Pakistan.

I was once speaking to some foriegners who have been to the subcontinent and who have spent some time here, any how, I asked them what they thought of us, the answer was revealing ! They said, you are like children. The answer stopped me short and I had to take time to think over it. Simple statement, but sometimes the truth and answer is simple. I thought of the prosperity and richness of their countries, and the countries in the region, like Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, even Vietnam. How they had pursued single mindedly development of their people and countries, how now they had some of the best educational institutions, medical facilities, housing and welfare systems etc etc.

Both countries must sit and talk sensibly rather than try to sway Afghanistan. If Pakistan releases captured Taliban and India does not like it, then India must know that the war in Afghanistan has been going on for thirty plus years and a generation has been lost.

Does all this war hysteria have to do anything with the elections in Pakistan ?
It seems Paksistan does not understands diplomacy. There was Kargil when Mr. Atal Vihari Bajpayee initiated Peace process. Now two soldiers are beheaded in brutal manner. Hot pursuit appears to be other option not explored so far.

I mean its funnier that Indian Air Chief is highlighting "other options" I think India is already using quite a few "other options" (i.e. Propaganda, Promoting Anarky etc). What Indian Air Chief has in:"Other options"? sending IAF pilots on flying booms? Funny enough!

Pakistan is fighting a war it cannot win . For starters they are outnumbered 2.5: 1 . India with its manpower pool and superior technology will always be ahead of Pakistan.It doesn't make sense ( for India too, still it is better off than Pakistan ) to divert resources for war while its majority population reels under poverty and internal strife.Its better for both countries to concentrate on progress rather than war.

This shows the true mindset of the Indian military establishment. It is elements like these that promote disharmony among people. Pakistan has called for UN investigation and instead of thinking about that option, this man is considering "other options".

Every passing day makes it more clear that this is an Indian set up for attacking Pakistan. They killed a Pakistani soldier, and called it a ceasefire violation by Pakistan, after Pakistan's retaliation they again killed a Pakistani soldier and again called it a violation by Pakistan. Now their air chief has jumped on the band wagon, so there is a obvious pattern here of provocation and deception to build a case for an Indian attack. Since this threat poses a clear and present danger to Pakistan, it is time for a pre-emptive strkie on India. Did the Indian air chief not think Pakistan has its "other opitions" too?

Makes sense. No one wants war or even escalation of hostilities, but the assumption by one side that the other will maintain its sang-froid regardless of provocation needs to be dispelled.
