ISLAMABAD: A fire broke out in the basement of a block of the Pakistan Secretariat that houses the Ministry of Interior, officials said on Friday. However, no casualties were reported.

Assistant Fire Officer Talib Hussain told The Express Tribune that fire broke out at 2:38pm due to a short circuit. He said the building had fire extinguishers fitted in the building, however the Capital Development Authority (CDA) dispatched two fire tenders.

“All the people inside the building were immediately evacuated after the fire broke out,” Hussain added. The furniture and other equipment in the basement were burnt, he said.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik took serious notice of the fire and directed the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner to hold an inquiry into the fire incident and submit a report within two days.
