Pakistan said its soldiers were killed on Sunday and Thursday.
On Tuesday, India said two of its soldiers were killed by Pakistani troops and that one of them was beheaded in the disputed Himalayan region, which is claimed in full by both India and Pakistan but ruled in part by each.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said it had summoned India’s high commissioner to Islamabad to lodge a “strong protest on the repeated, unacceptable and unprovoked attacks on Pakistani soldiers by the Indian army”.
India said its troops opened fire in response to Pakistani fire on both occasions. Pakistan has denied any responsibility for the Indian soldiers’ deaths.
On Friday, Pakistan called on the Indian government to investigate the “repeated” violations of the ceasefire, which has held along the Line of Control (LoC) -- the de facto border in divided Kashmir -- since 2003 and to take steps to prevent them from happening again.
Both countries have appeared determined to prevent the recent killings from wrecking a fragile peace process, which resumed in 2011.
Islamabad repeated an offer to hold an independent inquiry through the United Nations and reiterated its commitment to peace talks with India, saying the attacks “create unnecessary and avoidable distractions” to peace efforts.
On the ground, more than 300 people demonstrated in Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Friday, condemning Indian aggression and accusing Indian troops of ceasefire violations, police said.
The crowd condemned the killings of Pakistan soldiers in the state capital Muzaffarabad and dispersed peacefully, local police chief Raja Shafqat told AFP.
The rally was also attended by state premier Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, who accused New Delhi of deliberately disturbing peace in the region and said further protests would be held on Monday.
The United States has urged the nuclear-armed rivals to cool tensions along the heavily militarised LoC.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority territory, has been the cause of two of their three wars since independence from Britain in 1947.

@Girish: I am not surprised how u ppl are brain-washed too... Hats off as well to Indian education system and double hats off to indian media
@Rommel: Truth by what BruteForce said definitely pinched your nerve bad enough that you have no capability left to understand or use the sense of "reasoning". I see you were completely absent in another article where 140 Shias were reported killed in one of the most brutal events of series of explosions. Killing people by bomb is the most cowardly way of killing people. I dont see even a single comment from you not a single line of remorse for what happened. But here fro the death of soldier by hands of Indian has got you rattled enough to not understand this simple lack of sensitivity called compassion in you towards your own countrymen. I guess you are Sunni and you definitely care less who are Shias. For you that news is far less important or just another fodder for your truth deprived brain to take this incident as a plot by RAW / Mossad and CIA to bring bad name to Pakistan ( seriously since it's inception Pakistan never had a good name in history nor any contribution to world, please name one ). So please get your head out of the black hole and start paying attention to your own countrymen.
Yesterday 100 plus Pakistanis were killed. Nobody in Pakistan hasn't even written a decent article about it. You cannot summon a Taliban High Commissioner. A Pakistani gets killed in retaliation, people in Pakistan are livid!
Dozens die in Drone attacks too, how many times has the US high commissioner summoned?
The hatred of India is so high that even a single casualty is unacceptable. If the Taliban kill a 100 folks, or behead a truck full of soldiers; or, the Americans kill a few Pakistanis every week, there's hardly a protest.
This is indeed some strange mentality.
PPP's Pakistani leadership is going to declare India the Most Favorite Nation on January 15,2013 and already Aman Ki Aasha project has started between Pakistan and India and under the two above mentioned conditions PPP's government can't do any thing in this regard except giving verbal statements and only Pakistan army shall do what shall be necessary?????
@Behari Kebab
How well u kids are brain-washed!!! hats of to pakistani education system!!!!
@Behari Kebab
let the Indians live in their false sense of superiority complex...
@Behari Kebab: " .... India won jack at Kargil. India’s million+ men military with all its sophisticated arms and air support could not dislodge lightly armed para-militaries from their positions, and had to wait for international diplomatic pressure for them to withdraw ... "
Ask your N.L.I fellows what they REALLY think of the Pakistani Army.
History repeating itself. Pakistanis being told lies only to be repudiated later on.
@ amit: and what rp said is simply indian school history book. u livining in india and u might never met any pakistani. i live in dubai and met lot of indians here...and whenever i ask them about a certain information/knowlegde told by them, the source will be either indian news cahnnels or ultimately indian school history books...
@ Zafar: this is the case on indian side...ur media and ur education system feed hate against pakistan. If u dont beleive just follow one pakistani and one indian news channel for a fews days and u will see the clear difrence that who spreading hatered. I live here in dubai and i listen indian fm news channels. and beleive me they have more news about pakistan rather than their own and full of hatered...it is very much clear that indians hate pakistan more than pakistanis hate india.
@Behari Kebab: lol pakistani school history book.
I love both India and Pakistan. India is my country and Pakistani culture is very close to my own Punjabi culture. War is not desirable by both countries. India and Pakistan should severe all ties ( diplomatic, trade, cultural exchanges, sports etc.) for a minimum of ten years and should refrain from any type of bilateral interference in the internal affairs of each other. Both countries will learn what they missed in this period and then should develop the peace process again.
@Imran: Yes. Indian should also have sorted out 91000 pows in 1971.
I think there should be impartial enquiry by UN to ensure justice. There is very strong apprehension about the involvement of hawkish Brigades of Rasputin Battalion. This is the news from Indian media. If someone contests this theory, UN is the best Forum to end this controversy. Neither Pakistan nor India are in a position to fight a war. Due to stockpiles of Nukes on sides of border.
When has protesting or rational argument ever worked with India? All they understand is retaliation, and that is what Pakistan should be doing instead of pathetically protesting. Message to the govt.: remember, elections are coming, and you will be held accountable for the deaths caused by India both on the LOC, and through its agensts inside Pakistan e,g, Quetta.
An eye for an eye we must have sorted out Indian soldiers instead of calling their non sense high commissioner
Pakistan should know, in 1971 and subsequently in Kargil Captured Pakistani solders were handover with full military respect. If Pakistani;s have any doubt they can see videos on youtube about Pakistani solder surrendering in 1971 war under Subedar Singh... Indians are sports.. This cant be said about Pakistan so far... if not directly indirectly pakistan is responsible for beheading thats cruel and gruesome... neither they are giving their children right education nor the nation is taking responsibility to cure the menace of gruesome murders... its going back to Stone age and then blaming the whole world for its mess... Grow up.

No body must give a single chance to fulfill the aspiration of those who are behind this.
To Pakistanis who said that Indians are cry babies : Would you call this as crying as well?
Nonetheless, I am not an immature Pakistani to call it anything but a cheap attempt by Pakistan to cover for its failed attempts at infiltration.
Winter is always the most dangerous, since thick fog and clouds make it very difficult to identify infiltration of terrorists by Pakistan. Let's not forget Kargil happened in winter.
So, India needs to be alert to counter any mischief by Pakistan.
Look like Indians are taking revenge of series defeat!!
I beseech both governments to please continue with the peace process. We cannot let this continue.
May peace prevail!
The ghastly act of beheading is not going to be forgotten and forgiven so soon, he will be called again after a few days.
Finally ........
