Targeted killing: Private school association’s chairperson killed

According to SP Hussain, Haider may have been targeted because he belonged to the Shia sect.

The chairperson of United Private Schools Association and owner of Lal Qila Montessori House, Grammar School and College, Engineer Syed Ali Haider, 48, was shot dead in North Karachi area on Wednesday morning.


Sir Syed police SP Salman Hussain told The Express Tribune that at least two men on a motorcycle shot and killed him as he was driving his white Cultus home after dropping his wife at school. He was shot thrice and died on the spot, he added. Haider was laid to rest in Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard on Super Highway.

According to SP Hussain, Haider may have been targeted because he belonged to the Shia sect. The police have registered a case against unidentified men.

All private schools in the city will remain closed on Friday to protest the killing. At least four associations, which represent most of the private schools in the city, have decided to suspend all academic activities on Friday. They have also asked school owners and administrators to gather and condemn the killing. Quran Khawani will also be held for the deceased.
