RISALPUR:

Another child suffering from measles died on Monday, while several others are infected with the disease in Union Council (UC) Ghanderi of Risalpur in Nowshera district.

More than 15 children were brought to the Basic Health Unit of the UC but were turned back without treatment as the unit lacks measles vaccine.

Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Coordinator in Nowshera, Dr Muhammad Shoaib said that air force officials informed them about the surge of the disease in the UC, adding that a sporadic increase has been witnessed in the area where the air force employees are residing.

An air force employee Waseem Khan’s one-year old twin daughters had been suffering from the disease and one of them died because of lack of proper medication.

“Waseem did not shift his daughters to the District Headquarters Hospital, if he had, the child could have been saved,” Dr Shoaib said.

The EPI has decided to send vaccination teams to the affected area on Tuesday (today), to immunise the rest of the children. He said they would vaccinate all the children of the UC within one day.
