Express News bureau chief in Lahore Muhammad Ilyas said that on Saturday, Ahmed’s health deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital following cardiac arrest.
His funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday January 6, 2013, at 3 pm in Peshawar.
In November 2012, Ahmed had escaped unhurt from an assassination attempt when a female suicide bomber tried to kill him by blowing herself up. Three of his guards were injured in the attack near the Ghaiba Khwar area in the Haleemzai tehsil.
Qazi Ahmed, who was head of the JI for almost 22 years, had decided to step down from his post in 2009.

Qazi Hussain Ahmad was a great person of the muslim umah.He was the leader of all muslim world

JI had to bear loss in a very short span of time.first Prof. Gafoor now Qazi Hussain Ahmed. Very sad. Good to see that Qazi Sheb is getting appropriate coverage on media whereas Prof Gafoor with his illustrious career as a politician was not acknowledged.

Qazi Sahib was a good man. I had the honor of having lunch with him once at Idara-i-Noor Haq, he was a heart patient and used to have special diet. He was kind hearted with a soft hand. May Allah swt rest his soul in peace and grant him exalted imminence in Jannah and give strength to his family to bear the irreparable loss.
