Watta-Satta: Woman ‘hangs herself’
Mai’s father told police that he suspected his daughter had been killed by her in-laws.
RAHIM YAR KHAN:
A married woman is believed to have hanged herself on Wednesday, allegedly because of a disagreement with her mother-in-law and husband. Police identified the deceased as Rakhi Mai, a 26-year-old Hindu. Mai was married to Ajmal Ram about six months ago in a watta-satta arrangement. Ram told police that Mai had had a quarrel with his mother and had then demanded that the couple shift to another house. Ram said that on Wednesday, they entire family had watched television together, as was their routine after which Mai went to her room and hanged herself. Mai’s father, Rohit Ram, told police that he suspected his daughter had been killed by her in-laws. The police took the body to the Ferozewala Rural Health Centre for a post-mortem. It was handed over to Mai’s family after Hindu elders talked to her father and brokered a compromise between the two families.
