KARACHI: Quickies Tanvir Ahmed and Tabish Khan took five wickets each as Karachi Blues wrapped up an emphatic 10-wicket win over Peshawar on day two of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Group-I match here at the National Stadium yesterday.

Blues resumed the day on 85 for three in their first innings and were all out for 252 with a lead of 86 runs. Akbarur Rehman was the star with the bat with an unbeaten 96 while medium-pacer Waqar Ahmed claimed a five-wicket haul.

In their second-innings, Peshawar bundled out for just 95. Blues then raced to a target of 10 runs as they claimed maximum nine points out of the match which placed them at the top of the table.

Coach Azam Khan commended his fast-bowlers for their match-winning feats.

“It was an excellent spell by Tanvir and Tabish; they did not allow Peshawar to get settled in the middle,” Khan told The Express Tribune. “Tanvir gave us a good start and then Tabish destroyed the middle-order.”

Meanwhile, Islamabad came close to taking a first-innings lead against Lahore Ravi as they ended the day on 192 for three while replying to 216 at the Diamond Ground.

Umair Khan (57) and Fahad Iqbal (45) were unbeaten when the match was called off after only 57 overs due to bad light.

The third group match that was to be played between Multan and Quetta failed to materialise again due to bad light.

Latif, Ali hammer impressive tons

In Group-II, Khalid Latif struck 155 to put Karachi Whites in command against Abbottabad as they finished at 364 for three with an overwhelming lead of 218 runs at stumps here at the NBP Stadium.

Latif clubbed half-a-dozen sixes and eight boundaries while he was ably supported by Mohtashim Ali, who made 103 with 10 fours.

Another group match saw Awais Zia’s 87-run knock help Rawalpindi clinch a first-innings lead against hosts Hyderabad at the Niaz Stadium.

Rawalpindi made 233 for nine in 101 overs at the day’s end against Hyderabad’s first-inning total of 177.

Poor weather conditions made it impossible for Bahawalpur and Lahore Shalimar to play more than 27.4 overs, with the former posting 61 runs for one.
