Death penalty: Morejo might be hanged on Jan 17

Morejo had murdered Haji Muhammad Haroon Morejo in 1997 to avenge the death of his father and uncle.

SUKKUR: Jaleel Morejo, who has been on death penalty since 1997, is scheduled to walk to the gallows on January 17.

The district and sessions court in Naushero Feroz has issed the 20th death warrant against Morejo directing jail authorities. Morejo, a resident of Chanari village in Naushero Feroz, has been scheduled to be hanged 19 times but each time his death has been postponed due to changes in the government and attempts by the Pakistan Peoples Party to abolish the death penalty.

The petition to hang him has, on various occasions, been rejected by the Sindh High Court, the Supreme Court and by the president. Morejo had murdered Haji Muhammad Haroon Morejo in 1997 to avenge the death of his father and uncle.
