Quaid Trophy: Maqbool impresses with six-wicket haul

Off-spinner gives Karachi Whites edge against Abbottabad.

KARACHI: Off-spinner Atif Maqbool bagged six wickets on day one of the second round of fixtures to put Karachi Whites in control against Abbottabad in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Group-II match here at the NBP Sports Complex yesterday.

Abbottabad were all out for 146 after opting to bat first. Hammad Ali Shah made 37 as Maqbool rattled their batting line-up with six for 60. Whites ended the day on 79 for one in 22 overs as Khalid Latif remained unbeaten on 43 with.

In another match, Rawalpindi’s left-arm medium pacer Sadaf Hussain claimed five wickets to reduce hosts Hyderabad to 177 all out at the Niaz Stadium. Mir Ali Talpur top-scored with 70 off 90 balls, hitting 10 fours. At stumps, Rawalpindi were 51 for one.



The third Group-II match between Lahore Shalimar and Bahawalpur was postponed for a day due to the former team’s travelling issues.

“Our team couldn’t have reached the venue on time due to train delays,” LCCA president Khwaja Nadeem told The Express Tribune. “So we requested the Pakistan Cricket Board to move the match a day ahead.”

In Group-I, Karachi Blues closed the day with 85 for three while replying to Peshawar’s 166 here at the National Stadium. Muhammad Waqas (44) was the highest scorer for the Blues, while Tariq Haroon took four wickets

Meanwhile, Lahore Ravi were in trouble against Islamabad as they struggled at 186 for nine before the match was called off due to bad light at the Diamond Ground in Islamabad.

Adnan Akmal was not out on 63 off 116 balls while Jahangir Mirza contributed 54 to the total. Shahzad Azam claimed four wickets.
