The secret wedding was attended by the couple’s biological and adopted children, Pitt’s parents and his siblings at Karen’s private Parrot Cay estate in the islands. According to local journalist Jeffrey Slonim, the family was also accompanied by 12 nannies — that’s two nannies per child — reports hollywoodlife.com.
Here, we take a look back at the seven-year relationship of the Hollywood stars.
A timeline of love!
Summer 2004: All this started when Pitt and Jolie met on the sets of romcom action flick Mr. & Mrs. Smith, setting off rumours about a budding romance. Although both denied the rumours, saying they are just friends.
January 2005: Pitt and then-wife Jennifer Aniston announced the end of five-year marriage. Jolie being single — after divorcing second husband Billy Bob Thornton in 2003 — and Pitt ending his relationship created a much-publicised scandal.
March 2005: Aniston filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason behind the break-up. However, there are speculations that Aniston’s reluctance to start a family was one of the reasons for the relationship breaking down.
April 2005: Pitt and Jolie along with her adopted son Maddox were spotted holidaying on a beach in Kenya. This confirmed the long-standing rumours about the duo being a romantic item and was dubbed ‘Brangelina’ by the media. However, they continued to deny the reports.
July 2005: Jolie travelled to Ethiopia to pick up newly adopted daughter Zahara. Pitt accompanied her.
October 2005: Pitt and Aniston’s divorce was finalised by the Los Angeles Superior Court. Jolie and Pitt were often seen together.
January 2006: Jolie announced that she was pregnant with Pitt’s child, thereby confirming that the two had been in a relationship. Jolie sent an application to legally change the last names of her adopted children to Jolie-Pitt, which is granted soon after.
May 2006: The couple’s first biological child, daughter Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, was born in Nambia.
March 2007: Jolie adopted 3-year-old Pax Thien from Vietnam as a single mother, since it is against Vietnamese law to allow unmarried couples to co-adopt. A month later she filed a request to legally change his surname to Jolie-Pitt.
May 2007: With this the anticipation about the couple’s marriage started. OK! Magazine claimed the couple was set to get married at a candle-lit ceremony in New Orleans.
July 2008: The couple became biological parents for the second time, when Jolie gave birth to twins, son Knox Léon and daughter Vivienne Marcheline, in France.
December 2011: During the promotion of her directorial debut film In the Land of Blood and Honey, Jolie told the anchor person Christiane Amanpour that her children were pressing her to get married.
April 2012: The couple announced their engagement after seven years of courtship.
November 2012: At the New York premiere of his film Killing Me Softly, Pitt told the reporters the couple would wed “soon”. “The time is nigh. It’s soon. I got a good feeling about it,” the actor revealed. “I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come.”
Jolie’s stylist was also spotted picking up wedding rings from Neil Lane jewellers for the couple, In Touch magazine reported in December.
December 2012: The pair along with six broods went on to spend the Christmas and New Year holiday at the private Parrot Cay estate of fashion designer Donna Karan. Here they were joined by Pitt’s parents Jane and William Pitt, his brother Doug and sister Julie. The media started speculating that the couple might get married during the holiday.
December 25, 2012: The couple got married, reports the Telegraph.
