PESHAWAR: The security situation is deliberately being made worse in order to postpone the upcoming polls, said Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday.

While offering condolences over the death of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, Fazl said that attempts are being made to derail democracy in the country.

He welcomed Awami National Party (ANP) chief Asfandyar Wali Khan’s dialogue offer to the militants. “We had been calling for the same in the past,” Fazl said, adding that it reflects a convergence of opinion. He said all political parties should play their due role to bring this country out of present turmoil. Fazl also criticised Minhajul Quran International (MQI) chief Tahirul Qadri, saying that his slogan of rescuing state is only being used as a cover to validate the imposition of martial law in the country.
