Five members of a family were injured when a gas pipeline exploded in Mohalla Tapakhee of the city on Saturday morning.

The city police’s Wahid Khan told The Express Tribune that it took place inside a house where there was a leak from a gas pipeline. The residential part of the house was demolished.

The house’s owner, Masoom Chishti, told the police that he and the four other injured people were taken to the district headquarters hospital. The doctors said that two of the injured were identified as Mujtaba, 13, and Ihsan who were in critical condition. Chishti and Asad Chishti along with another family member whose name couldn’t be ascertained were discharged after first aid.

The critically injured people were referred to PIMS hospital in Islamabad. No FIR was registered however, officials assumed that Chishti along with his family were stealing liquid gas from the pipeline.
