KARACHI:

Former provincial ministers Haji Shafi Muhammad Jamote and Abdul Hakim Baloch, who recently joined the Nawaz Sharif-led Pakistan Muslim League, have said the Sindh government have been taken hostage by terrorists, target killers and extortionists.

The “so-called” elected, democratic government has handed over Karachi to extortionists, they said at a public meeting at the Old Thana village of Malir.

Hakim Baloch, who was twice elected to Sindh Assembly on Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) ticket during Benazir Bhutto’s regime, criticised the government for its unsuccessful policies.

He lashed out at the government for neglecting the voice of Sindhi people of Karachi, who have been protesting against the new system of local government in the province.

Former minister Jamote, who was the first chairman of Karachi district council elected in 1979, also alleged that Karachi was handed over to extortionists under the disputed local government system.
