
During his address, he categorically stated that no employee would be sacked from the airline. However, he said that strict action may be taken on disciplinary grounds, as dereliction of duty will not be allowed and an average employee will have to demonstrate at least 80% efficiency within his sphere of work.
The PIA chairman emphasised that the present management was undertaking various studies to ensure efficient savings, career planning for the growth of employees, ways for improving employees’ benefits, the pension policy and the staff’s uniform. He expressed confidence in the PIA staff, and said they were the single biggest strength of the management in difficult situations.
“It is the employees of the corporation who have kept the airline running and able to conduct one of the best Hajj operations in 2012,” said Malik. “PIA has been acknowledged by not only the people of Pakistan, but also by the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority. PIA was determined the best among 72 international airlines operating from Jeddah,” he claimed.
Malik said that each operational area and department is under study under the PIA Revival Plan, and major decisions will be taken to realise the potential needed for the turnaround of the airline. He informed employees that acquiring aircraft on dry lease is being done transparently under independent observers for improving the PIA fleet, which is the sole revenue earner of the airline.
He said that new destinations would be added to the PIA roster, while some of the closed destinations would be reopened. The PIA Cargo Services will also be modernised, Malik said.
