With nothing much to do on Eid apart from the usual family reunions, people usually turn to home entertainment through films to avoid boredom. However, this Eid, the DVD shops bear a forlorn and empty look themselves.

According to Arif, a sales representative of Radio City at The Forum, “Things are moving in slow motion this Ramazan. People are hardly interested in buying  DVDs and the most they are buying are a couple of DVDs to watch over Eid.”

Azeem at Laraib Music also complained about people hardly visiting DVD shops as compared to previous years.

But, according to both Khalid and Arif, there are some DVDs that are in high demand. The Sonam Kapoor-starrer Aisha is selling exceptionally well. Among Hollywood movies, it is The Expendables which has acquired the top spot.

Zeeshan at Javaid Books, Lahore said, “The rush at our store is relatively less compared to the last years. People are not buying more than two DVDs.”

However, there are some exceptions as well. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Khalid who works at the DVD counter at Agha’s Supermarket said, “On an average, people are buying more than six DVDs this time, some are even buying over 10 of them. I haven’t seen so much rush at my counter around Eid time (before).”
