Shahzeb Khan didn’t even get time to change the clothes he wore to his sister’s valima. He was in his dark grey dress shirt and trousers when four 9mm bullets pierced through his car - a gleaming blue Swift which was an early birthday gift from his parents, and entered his body, eventually killing this popular 20 year old.
The car which had somersaulted after the shooting near Mubarak Masjid in Karachi’s upmarket Defence area on Tuesday morning, now stands silent opposite the Darakhshan Police Station, a sad reminder of what the spoilt young sons of feudal landlords can do if they or their friends are challenged.
Ironically, Shahzeb Khan, the only son of his parents, was shot dead because of a small argument. He and his sister had just returned to their home in the Country Club Apartments from the wedding when a servant living in the building teased his sister. Shahzeb raised his voice against the harassment. But this did not sink in well with the harasser’s master, one Nawab Siraj Talpur. A fight broke out soon after, but Shahzeb’s father, DSP Aurangzeb, jumped in and quickly resolved the dispute, and the two men left on a good note.
Everything seemed normal. Soon after, Shahzeb decided to have tea with his friends. But the feud wasn’t over in Talpur’s mind till then. As an oblivious Shahzeb drove in his car near Mubarak Masjid, Talpur and his friend Shahrukh Jatoi followed him, along with Jatoi’s armed guards. Police say that in an act of cold-bloodedness, they then allegedly fired four bullets into Shahzeb’s car, leaving him severely injured, and eventually dead.
Soon enough after the incident, the two criminals and their families conveniently escaped to Sukkur. Despite the fact that Shahzeb’s father himself is a police officer, there is little the police have done so far to catch the murderers.
The devastated father of the young victim, Aurangzeb, clad in mourning black clothes, said taking lives in the city had become so easy for people who have strong political backgrounds and power. “I had settled the dispute. Then why was my son killed like this. This is the brutal reign of the feudals. They don’t spare anyone.”
FIR 519 under murder case 302 has been registered at the Darakhshan Police Station against the two accused and their guards. Initially, the family had a hard time registering the case owing to political pressure coming from other end. However, Investigation officer Murtaza told The Express Tribune that a joint team under SI Chaudhry Nafees had been formed to look into the case. Some say this is a mere formality and nothing will come of this.
“We have requested the FIA to put the names of the accused on the ECL.” The officer said that such open use of arms across the city had become common. “For students and young adults, carrying guns has become a trend. Fights break out and the first thing children do is take out guns on one another. Parliamentarians and influentials travel in the city with their guards pointing guns at others and no one can do anything. Their children do the same.”
The tragic death of this media sciences student at Greenwich University sent shockwaves. Loved ones who remember Shahzeb for his cute smile, created a page “In Memory of Shahzeb Khan” to seek justice for the act. In just thirteen hours since the page was created, 2,500 people had joined, with dozens leaving messages of ‘I’ll miss your smile, RIP and you were a real soldier, you stood up for the wronged.”
Close university friend Saad Jan, who had just arrived from visiting his friend’s grave said that Shahzeb was the person who would always stand up for others. Another friend, Fahad Wakeel said that he was always remembered for his good nature.
Shahzeb’s uncle, Jahanzaib said: “For him everything ended with a smile. Even when he was leaving from the valima, and I saw him for the last time, he smiled and joked with my daughters and went away, leaving us forever.”
The police suspect that the boys aged 20 or 23, are on their way to Sukkur. So far two people, alleged to be Jatoi’s guards, have been arrested. But even the police are now taking sides. SSP Investigation Faizullah Karejo said that the boys knew each other and were in a fight from before. “The parents had to intervene and everything was settled,” he said. “However, the boys started to fight again and Jatoi shot Shahzeb four times as he sat in his car to go to a friend’s house.” He added that Jatoi was in the city for winter break and is studying in Malaysia.

No excuse for Jagirdar and Zamindar. All are equal and human being. All those guards and the persons involved must be punished. This is insaaf and adal. in lslamic republic of Pakistan.
@Chimichanga: Do u think by commenting ; we can a difference? Shunt there be a protest for every single person like Shahzeb Khan? As YOUTH can make a difference
Really sorry to hear about the murder but dont u think its enough? I respect many politicians such as Imran Khan; Altaf Hussain & Nawaz Sharif ; but i think its time to get up on our feet; from the past 5 years they havent done a thing, so now i think its time for the youth to take a stand; Its not just about Shahzeb ; but every single person who has been killed without a reason! Youth has to take a stand !
very very sad
Very very sad

justice is delayed justice is denied , I hope that time neither justice is delayed nor denied if civil society of Pakistan rise their voice against such brutal act. i salute all those who rise their vice for the support of this innocent soul. And pray to Allah bless all of them and this poor soul.
With heavy hearted feelings at the precious life loss of the murdered young man shahzaib and supporting the call for justice, i must note that the title of the blog is very misleading and sounds partially biased , may i remind the dear writer Karachi is the capital city of Sindh, it is not a seperate entity from the Sindh and the lives of karachites are not threatned by the feudals only , who snatches the cell fones , who abduct people for ransom, who extorts bhatta from the business / industrial and the privilliged community, who explodes bombs, who kills and being killed in the shoot outs in kati pahari , baldia , who murders in Incholi, nishatr park!? who !? who!? My condolances with the family of the deceased
sad indeed..:((( but we are with u
What no one is asking: Who were the witnesses to his murder? The narrative sounds like a story rather than an eye witness account. Not only that, no report even says "identities of witnesses are withheld" at all. But legit news outlets are supposed to point out their sources or their existence for that matter. Nothing of the sort has been done on any news outlet. Its like they all got a press release and wrote their own versions. There are far too many inconsistencies in the story slapped across all news outlets. There is no mention of 'witness names withheld' or any indication that some saw it happen. Do the witnesses even exist? And if yes, who will petition or volunteer to protect them? Without their testimony, the case can be thrown out (if it ever reaches court). Who will guard them from the safe house to the courts and ensure they aren't assassinated pre or post testifying? I hope people can remember that 'news" outlets found it important to update the world with "breaking news" that 21st Dec 2012 is the predicted doomsday of the Mayan Apocalypse. So we know our news outlets have a shaky understanding of what quantifies as news. Lets not draw conclusions before getting all the facts.
@Aamer Khawaja: It is not in the culture of Sindh, there is no religion / culture in the world that promotes war. hatred and injustice.. You should be sensible enough to comment like that...Hope you don't mind as I am just pointing out the fact.
Thanks
@Sindh_voice: There is nothing wrong with the title and I speak as an independent from both Sindhi Urban or Sindhi Rural sides. However, there is everything wrong with Sindhi Feudal system, indeed with all feudal system and it should be abolished in this country.
@Maha: albums of his accidents and videos in which he was using a foul language are now deleted and his display pic is also updated. This case is getting media coverage bcoz he was from elite class and everyone is defaming feudal culture without any knowledge. No one ever talks about innocent people being killed daily in khi. Police walon k bigre hue shehzadey b shareef nae hote.
Why this cruel act? can we not implement writ of law?
Guys its the inside news that the criminals of Shahzeb Khan murders has escaped from the country on the 26th December 2012 from a well known airline of UAE to Dubai and they are sitting in Dubai now. Our government will not do anything for this case also, like others which they have ignored....... R.I.P Shahzeb Khan souls.
It is very heartening to note that Allama Dr. Tahir ul Qadri Sahab, has taken up cudgels against the cruelties of the feudal class in Pakistan, for which the entire nation is supporting his noble class. However, it is surprising that till now, Allama Tahir ul Qadri Sahab, has not spoken a single word in the sympathy of the late Shahzeb (son of serving Police DSP), who was recently murdered in Karachi, in cold blood, by the son of a Wadera, who is now hiding from arrest, with the help of the influentials of our feudal society. Dr. Qadri Sahab, please raise your voice against this cruel and criminal act of the son of a feudal lord.
These Feudal lords mostly lives in posh areas in Karachi and thinks they own whole Karachi. What happened last year in defence when some spoiled kid of feudal lord was having a dance party at his place and one of the grandson of Bugtiii's family with his gunmen tried to enter forcefully and fight broke out along with shots fired from both sides, as a result of which 4,5 got killed and dozens of them got injured. Why they need to keep the guards with themselves? Just to show their power and harass people.
These people kill because they can get way with it. The Zaalim feudals existence is based on the exploitation of human beings: for them to kill or sell the kidney of the poor is nothing. As they use animals so they use the poor and others below them. Army and civilian governments have done nothing to bring a modicum of justice to pakistan. the Land the feudals occupy should be stripped from them. No compensation should be paid. They got the land from the British so it can be taken away. India had the bandit Queen. the Quaid proposed direct action and yet we continue to do nothing.
It isn't shahzeb killed, its a mentality that killed a class which they consider thier pesants, and its killing since Pakistan pioneered.
when i pointed it out his profile has been cleared with all his bad comments and his smashed car albums. If people would make fun that how can a deceased person operate his profile then please see the Justice for Shahzeb page that this profile has liked. That means there is something fishy. If nothing was wrong and he was a boy next door type kid then why was his profile filtered now.
Can anybody answer?
Well this news heading is racist...for feudals sindhi people lives are also cheap...its a shame for a forum like this to initiate such a hatred.....
RIP...
I am ashamed of being called a Pakistani. I did not stand up against injustice. Imran khan is right. We as a nation have lost our dignity. What hurts the most is that we know it.
Feaudalism should be ended. These feaudal lords have ruined our country enough and now there children.
Is there any law in the Pakistan? If the DSP's son not save so what about the a common people....
Oh' ALLAH kindly forgive our mistakes and save Pakistan...
I totally condemn this killing but::: How come a DSP is living in Country Club Apartments DHA phase V, and able to gift Swift to his Son, DSP is a 17 Grade officer with a meager salary of about Rs 50,000/month.
@AA: Bholay budshahoo
This shows the mentality of these feudals. To all those who think this is some sort of joke, lie, exaggeration and divine justice,DISGUSTING MENTALITY WILL YOU BE SAYING THE SAME THINGS IF YOUR BROTHER OR SON GOT KILLED?
@Shahid Ashraf: They must be sub humans I guess cos they dont look like us.
Well Its a real breath taking news, I don,t knw why these sindhi'sare even allowed to manuver in the city with so many armged guards , These uneducated ,uncultered sindhi's shld not even be allowed in cities like Karachi these ppl shld live in their villiges. The problem with these rich spoiled brats is tht after 11.00 at night these young guys aged between 20-30 have a few alocoholic drinks and move around in the city specially DHA & Clifton in their hilux vigos(bought by our tax money) with 4-5 guards and think they own Karachi. its a pitty that we are ruled by these kind of jerks . I Wish and prey for this goverment to end ASAP any other party would be better then these sindhi's. They are completly destroying are city of lights KARCHI.
Sorry to note and it is a matter of grief to all humans. Thanks to this media who brought the case in light with facts because hundreds such cases and the facts could not reach to the people.
We must find the cause behind this violent environment, lacking of Islamic laws.
Tks
Zindabad Feudal System, Moordabad Awaam
this is right time for POLICE to prove, they can take action against every body
this is right time for SC to prove, they can even call Fuedals in court
this is right time for Politcal parties to prove, they really take care of public
this is right time for public to think, to whom they should Vote
I think PPP also Fuedal party, now people should think about it
Protest is not enough karachi people should take action against these bad Fuedals
No disrespect to the deceased or any of the concerned parties. But the matter leading to the shooting was something entirely different. I would know because my uncle is friends with the family.
I Behalf of my people living here in quetta condemn this brutal act.Allah Pak hum sub par Reham krey.
a very sad and tragec incident of shahzeb murder.but no body will take notice because Malala is the best darling of west and Pakistan.
VERY SAD
http://www.facebook.com/shahzebk
This may give us a view on the boy himself
Not trying to downplay the incident but if you have a close look at the deceased's profile on this link then it does prove that he wasn’t holier than the cow himself.
http://www.facebook.com/shahzebk
The smashed car albums and the kind of language he has used does show that he was himself a spoilt brat of the sorts. So trouble begets trouble in reality. Should the kid be acting his age, I believe he would have been with us right now. It looks something deeper than mere "servant teasing sister and boy's fighting with each other" story
We really need a change if this country has to go ahead and for that we can't wait Sindh and South Punjab to get out of their centuries old culture which is based on slavery, brutality, and inhuman attitudes.. The new generation is no more anti Taliban because they at least have the guts to Challenge these feudal,
And yet Bilawal gets a warm reception.......he is going to bring more of this.
In India, whole Delhi has came out to protest against the rape case- and have resulted the arrests of culprits .Media , agencies, human rights and police all have raised their part of work in establishing the system-
This is what we are missing in pakistan! we should raise our voices too.. why are we all silent??
its a shameful incident in Karachi. i also read this here http://www.awamipolitics.com/shahzeb-khan-murder-in-karachi-11280.html
It is sad to see people miss the point of this article. The disparity in distribution of wealth has led a small percentage of the uneducated with masses of spending power which they use to build their small security forces akin to that of a militia. As this article proves, not even the cops can keep them in check. Most of them seem to have been bought by them anyway for what I see, the barrage of patrol vehicles guarding private residences is proof enough.
You don't get that kind of spending power in Pakistan unless you own a share in the monopoly of the agricultural business. This sickens me.
What sickens me more is that people mindlessly exploit every issue to bring focus to something whose relevance ends at the point of deaths- the drone attacks. Shame on you for being the mindless propaganda machines you are.
Arrogance, lordliness, high-handedness, Bharam Bazi has become part of our culture throughout Pakistan and this act is making us depressed, frustrated, impatient.
DE-WEAPONIZATION is the only solution in our country. NO ARMS AT ALL. Police and Politicians both privately holding numerous illegal weapons.
I am deeply saddened by the killing of Shahzeb, but the thing very obvious here is Bharam Bazi from both sides. One belongs to a Police family and other from Politician.
We, as a civilian living in Pakistan are facing Arrogant and lordliness attitude from Police and Politician families in our everyday life, and the way we deal is by brushing aside and turning off.
i feel sorry, but one Question:
Now this DSP and their family feel sad about their son, but can one ask him as being DSP (Police Officer) what he were doing for same people who have shot his son down? have he ever feel pain for those parents who were shot by same people or he himself did for same feudal's?
Media always raise voice for people who have strong back ground? not for those who dies by not having back?
Just think if Shahzeb was an ordinary person, i think no one have cared about him.
We always pay back for what we do.
RIP Shahzeb, you are now one of victims who dies daily for no reason.
may Allah bless your soul.
@Muhammad Rizwan Ali: Dear brother first of all this not the other country. Karachi is city of Pakistan Do you have id of person infact who are living in Karachi. No i do not think so. Even as of today our biggest party of karachi is resisting the decision of Supreme Court for verification of voter list.
If you don't like the Sindhis, get out of our province.
Nothing is going to change. These people (wedaray) will never leave us alone. They will roam around the city with their 4w cars with 4 guards on the back pointing a gun on you all the time with the tinted glasses and fake number plates but no body will stop them. There's no law for people like these. If there's any then the government should take notice of this horrible incidence and place their names in the ECL as soon as possible. Where's the judiciary now? Where's the media now? Why this poor little kid is getting no media coverage? This system can never change if we keep on electing these people again and again and again. Also, the new bhutto is here too to make our lives miserable in the coming years. I appeal to the judicial system of Pakistan and specially the CJ to take notice of this case if he's sincere to change the system he surely will else we all can say that there's nothing left for us in this country. Please everyone raise your voice!
@random: I do not know why it is refered to Interior Sindh People. This is also like any other Target Killing in City except in this case Victim is SON OF POLICE OFFICER. How about Hundred of People Killed brutally almost every week and no Action. I have sympathies for grieved family and for all thousands of people families who are brutally murdered every year in the Karachi City and by so for strong political party ruling in Sindh as well as Federal Govt. Since more than last 10 years with the clear evidence of involvement in the same. Any Action of that Party Person ! I regret for this nation.
This boy should get justice .. he was an innocent bit it can be n e one our brother orr father .. its show time.. we need to raise voice against this .. WE NEED TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These killers should be caught but before that all the killers of Sindhi youth should be caught first. We as Sindhis should stand for it that law should not only work one way but both ways.
Nations before us were eliminated becase the had a different set of rules for people with power and thoes without power. The same thing is happening in Pakistn
Wish the sould of this young man rest in peace and may Allah give streenght to father and family in grieve.
May Allah do the justice with the murderer and make him example. May allah give hidayat to people of my Pakistan.
People if you donot raise your voice you will be part of this cruelty. Ameen Masroor emphasized text
@Morons: Agreed The people have ID from other city, when live in Karachi, Police must regsietered them. It happen all arround the world in China, you can have only your native address on ID
i feel really sad for his parents loss... and i feel sad for people who die everyday in karachi.. but atleast this guy got his case filed... thousand others die and they dont get any recognition individually.. this is not a country.. its a jungle..
We need system of accountability a must for one and all. If this frustration continues then soon every house will have arms and we will be killing each other on trivial issues. O Idiot illiterate and indisciplined republic May Allah help you but We all know Allah doesnt help those who does nto help themselves
Im going to personally request Syed Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi, the elder son of Late Pir Syed Mardan Shah II to help bring these monsters to justice as quickly as possible.
Let ppl breath .. let ppl live .. lets have peace. Wat is our govt n police doing ?? Killing in Khi hv become soo easy . Jus pik a gun n shoot . Govt needs to take an action against all dis . Else Pakistan wil b destroyed soon .. RIP shahzeb .. Allah wil take revenge . May God giv patience n justice to ur family .
My sincere condolences to the friends and family of this young lad. May Allah grant this young boy a place in jannat, Aameen.
These feudal are the cancer of Pakistan. Until or unless they are eliminated from Pakistan Pakistan will stay in the stone age.
Acts such as these shows how barbaric and cowardly their culture is.
It's indeed Sad! Well, the poor in the drone attacks and the shias getting brutally killed should also get justice the same way.
I have always failed to understand why police hides the faces of people arrested either accused or sentenced thier faces should be shown to public which is a standard practice all over the world. The accused names, adddressses and photos should be published in newspaper so that public can help to find them.
How can a DSP afford to live in those apartment, afford such a private institution, give cars as birthday gift. Surely he has been protecting the same fuedals who eventually took life of one of their own.
This is fates payback.
To all those who are criticizing the news think of it as the way to start a movement against injustice. karachi united on one bushra zaidi, new delhi on one gang rape. COME ON KARACHI. COME ON PAKISTAN,. ENOUGH WITH THE NONSENSE KILLINGS. ENOUGH WITH ARMED KIDS.
The title of the story is biased. All feudals are not like this. And Shahzeb's killers should be hanged till death
Join campaign #JusticeForShahzebKhan on twitter and exposed feudal landlords [killers of Shahzeb Khan].
spread this news if possible with photograph of murderers so they are condemned where ever they study party or hide these boys and their families must be relying on short memory and short range of our LAW.ALLAH help us who are mostly quite and indifferent when anything sad is happenning to others wake up nation before it is too late for everyone of us.
Its funny how this ssp seems to know everything about the culprits and their details but still doesnt know where they are hiding .
First we need to understand is that life is a precious gift God. By protecting lives others, we can thank to Almighty Allah for His kindness. Overall just think about Pakistani society's attitude towards human life. Murder of four five men has become a daily routinr in Karachi and no dare to talk about knowing that who are the murderers. Life of Shahzaib was too valuable because the innocent citizen of Pakistan not just being a son of police officer. We have to change our thinking and strive to behave as Pakistan. Otherwise we will not be able to fight against the feudals and the mass murderers. Bottom line is that we have to move and move very fast to reinvent ourselves as Pakistani and unfortunately we have no other option left,
! its the end of the day for me and I am truely saddened to read this article. I have always seen these incidents synonymous with PPP rule. During 70's I know for fact that many honourable peoples wives and daughters were victumizied. And the famous incident in which Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti wiped out is revolver and killed a goverment servent with his family in a car over a minor parking issue on Liberty chowk signal on Tariq road. He was given presendial pardon by ZAB. So was his son Jameel Bugti when he went to Ziauddin Hospital to kill Mir Hamza Khan Kalpar Bugti and on his way back was confronted by two military soldiers, whom he killed. He too was given presendial pardon.
Why such things happen ? because as a society have learned to tolerate such incidents. They also know that public memory is very short, few news, few comments after which all would be history! and people would move on. And they............after few months........over a drink........in the vicinity of defense -------in a close drawing room........would be sharing the thrill they got from pumping the 4 bullets..........
Indeed I am very very sad.
Seriously Heart wrenching. It shows the atrocities that are being faced by thousands and thousands of People across Pakistan. I pray that may ALLAH bless his soul and May this guy and All the other people who died lately rest in peace, Ameen!
A Must Read http://binashah.blogspot.com/2012/12/anti-sindh-racism-rears-its-ugly-head.html
What a troll worthy headline just to get attention and stir emotions. Here's another one 'Thousands of bori bund bodies found in karachi on orders of a pir sitting in london in the lap of luxury' . naah that won't do. i'll attach the word 'fuedal' to it somewhere. that'll do it.
Feudal or no feudal, if the govt has any sense of integrity whatsoever it should hunt down the killers and roast them in a firepit!! Enough of this BS
They should be Punished Down with the system . Put their names in ECL .
R.I.P Shahzaib
Please keep your derogatory comments to yourself. This young boy was family to me and nobody can imagine the pain and anger his parents, his sisters and all his relatives have in their hearts at the moment. May Allah grant Shahzeb with Jannah and I really pray that justice be served to this poor young boy and his family. Ameen
i cant understand why people are cryinhg over a headline. feudal kids and their body guards are roaming openly in dha and clifton. this is a reality and feudals are sindhis. these two kids were sindhis feudals too.
wHY not we all can get together and raise our voice against such incidents. I appeal to family and friends of Shahzeb Khan to rasie the voice for justice, Youth of Pakistan will stand along with you. Dont give up and put these murderers behind bars.
I'm against the feudal system. But it has a strong hold in Pakistan, not easy to omit. Sigh !
its not necessary k a DSP has to be poor. some people from good, established families are part of our police too who can afford all such luxuries. kindly focus on the problem not on providing food for thought. I agree with the fact that all sindhis can't be blamed. some i know personally are extremely polite and humble but the two involved in this should be punished.
encounter!
Interestingly the killer has been studying in Malaysia but apparently learned nothing about how Law is resprcted in Malaysia.
All people of karachi, including MQM, ANP must come out, to catch these killers we must do some thing not just sitting in home we have to save our children from these Fuedals, let Karachi people unite, and attack on these fuedals, living in karachi Quickly Police can not do ant thing CJ must come out
@Baig: one should not judge what the family owns. the issue here is that a 20 year old got shot dead. They are not liable to answer such question.People should think before they post.Had it been some other way of income then he wouldn't have been dead as he must have had a police protocol or private guards along with him all the time.
Its not necessary that of he's a DSP he would be poor. Some people from good established families are also part of our police. Kindly focus on the problem rather than giving food for thought.
khi need a massive brutual operation and has to be weapon free city ASAP
Both killers should be arrested immediately, if due to political influence police is facing problem then this is the right case where CJ should take notice and give justice to parents of young man. ET please keep us aware of the developments in the case, this way we all can pressurize police to take action against the culprits
@Asif Soomro: first of all, it is unethical to speak about someone who is already dead. Secondly,we all know that these Sindhi feudal lords have always created problems in our city. I was wondering that why do we only have a "SINDHI TOPI DAY", isn't it just another way of telling the rest of the nation that these SINDHI'S are superior than us. if celebrating such a day is just another way of promoting their culture, then why not Punjabi, Balochi, Pathan or Mujahir day. The reason why this poor boy got shot, was that because he tried guarding his honor, whereas these filthy minded men keep their female family members all guarded safely in their house and harass every other woman. Sadly, people come up with such lame excuses that the boy must have done something wrong just because he was the son of some police wala!!!
this is a heart wrenching story and whoever was behind it deserves salute. as a student i have seen such brats threatening us by their guns and no one can do anything. we all need to highlight such issues. thanks to the newspaper and the person behind it.
@MAD: After learning about the peaceful protest being conducted for Shahzeb, me & my family members have decided, along with my 77 year old grandad, to participate and raise our voices against this feudal mindset that has ruined the lives of many.. I strongly urge to all people to come forward and lets not just participate but fight for justice. Today it was Shahzeb Khan, tomorrow it could be one of us r one of ours. Looking at people's sentiments, it is quite evident that every single person is not only disturb over this tragedy but also hankering after bringing the culprits to justice without any further delay. Please come forward and join this movement. If we cant join each other over these unfortunate, untimely and unjustified incidents then how could we ever liberate ourselves from the feudal and corrupt mindset that we ourselves have imposed upon us.
The Chief Minister of Sindh should intervene, and order an immediate arrest. This is no time to play politics. The Rule of Law must be supreme.
@Bilal: u mean it could be the other way round too? the murdered boy being the culprit and the murderer being innocent? oh yes! you have got a point boy!
We want justice
While this boy's murder is tragic and despicable, I'm surprised nobody has noticed that his father is a DSP, whose average salary is around 50000/month but he can still afford to, a) give his son a Swift worth roughly 1.4 million as a birthday present, and b) live in the up-scale Country Club Apartments. In all fairness, this sounds like a classic case of the chickens coming home to roost. Again, I'm not trying to downplay the gravity of the murder or the fact that his family deserves to get justice, but merely giving everyone some food for thought.
Everybody knows what feuals are like! And all these ppl defending them.... have u guys been living under a rock?
These animals should be hanged to death....where is the police? where is the judiciary? Anyone from these authorities to clarify what they intend to do about this?
It is sad that the law is different for the politically influential people and the masses. Only when this is changed can we expect some justice for people like Shahzeb who are killed everyday in such incidents.
Abolish the VVIP culture, nobody should be above law, these small time politicians should not get full security and protocol and police protection and be allowed to spend tax payers' money this way and there should be checks and balances on the guns that everyone carries so freely around here. I know it is wishful thinking but I do hope one day all this can change so that people do not have to die in vain.
And for people saying that people are dying from target killings and drone strikes, a life is a life and no life is less important, whether it be of anyone belonging to any strata or any class or creed. Some might get reported, others not, but that doesn't mean that either is less important.
military operation in Sukkur?
Can we really support a democracy based on feudal aristocracy? They are gods on the earth , untouchable, and unaccountable. Real land reforms are needed for a prosperous country and a just society.
Saddening news, may his soul in peace and his family and friends have patience to overcome this ordeal.
I know from living in apartments adjacent to Country Club for the past 15 years that feudal own quite a few flats in the city which they visit after crop harvests in summer and winter breaks. Their blatant disregard for social and moral values are cause of discomfort for other residents of apartment complexes.
Usually these guys would: 1. Not pay water & maintenance bills 2. Park their 4WDs and accompanying Vigoes on main roads 3. Employ a number of servants and guards, who create a nuisance for residents like eve teasing, stalking and staring 4. Bring prostitutes and drinks through main apartment lobbies 5. Public display of assault rifles, AK47s and hand guns
I'm not saying that all of them are same but most of them indulge in one or more factors listed above.
Finish carrying of arms, come down hard on the public, public hanging for the filth (read cowards) that has infiltrated the city. How much longer will people stay quiet??
I see some ppl getting upset by the use of some words & their disagreement about how the events been described but the fact remains that the boy was killed eventually by the other party & no matter how the feud started or what led to the event it still doesn't justify taking someone's life. This matter may not have been highlighted so much in a law abiding society where the law enforcing agencies aren't serving the rich & powerful & although i agree its not right to generalise but its also not a hidden fact that the majority of these big shots in Sind are the feudals. They are used to mindless killing between their clans. Therefore its high time we mend our ways (includes our police who provide cheap security to them instead of protecting the common citizens) as this feudal mindset is not just limited to their villages & haris no more. Their barely literate 'un'educated sons are following their forefathers footsteps & spreading menace in the cities too. It's not the poor this time, the children of a lesser God but your own sons & brothers....
@Sufi: A peaceful protest 'Justice for Shahzeb Khan' is being planned this Sunday for our hero, please come forward, join hands and do this for Shahzeb. Please spread the word. Location would be the Karachi Press Club. Agar Bharat itna pasand hai toh wahin chale jao, but WE are protesting. Don't make inappropriate comments please.
@Karachiite Country Club Apartments are a posh defence apartment complex like creek vista. many well-off people reside there. However many waderas also have side apartments where they go to party and drink away from there families.
I know this family personally as I live in the same building, shazie grew up in front of me, and was my little brothers friend. He did not deserve this. Nobody deserves this. My heart bleeds for his sister, who in her valima dress kept crying out, screaming 'my brother died because of me'. Talpur should be arrested, feudal lord be damned.
If a DSP is not getting justice and his own son got shot, so hpow on this earth a normal person can get justice in Pakistan? in other words, jis mulk ke Muhafiz hi zulm ka shukar hongay woh aur logon ko tahfffuz kese dengey?
thank you PPP, for such an outstanding performance in these 4.5 years LOL
Roti KAPRA MAKAAN
Far be it for anyone to point out that killing people is wrong. What a stupid country full of stupid people who have time to write about tragedy from their home laptops but not get out of their arm chairs to stop a system breeding a bunch of stupid uneducated feudal pipsqueaks that have no sense of civil society or decency. Not only should the criminals be locked up but so should their parents.
This country DESERVES what has happened to it because until the awam and educated upper class gets up and marches, nothing will change.
I'm a Sindhi from a feudal family and I condemn this, and all such acts. All of us are not same.
2008, the year when feudals became gods.
More so than the story itself, its the comments that make me sad.
People who think its a hate campaign need to realize that someone's life was lost. He meant the world to his family so many people lost their everything. All you can do is sit here and complain about the title. You cant change the fact that the boys who shot him belonged to feudal backgrounds. Why were they carrying weapons? Who allowed them? Is it legal for them? If you say he was the son of a DSP n can't be naive then y wasn't he carrying a weapon? Why didn't he shoot them? They were from the feudal background and THEY WERE WRONG. They should be hanged in public. Just keep yourself in his family's shoes and then think what you would do in such a situation. What if the servant teased your sister? Would you sit and enjoy the moment? Have a heart and don't be ridiculous. Don't try to ignite this Sindhi karachite crap!
@Sindh_voice
Maybe when one of these feudal lords murder your own family member, then wll you understand the pain and grievance one has to go pass. Believe you will the among the many raising voices against them today.
@h.shah
I can assure you that this is not a first time has such crime being commited by a feudal lord, 3 years an innocent helpless servant was brutally murdered by Bugti's (unfortunately which went unreported because the police refuses to file a case against them). Incidently the same member of the family Taleh Bugti was then shot at some dance party roughly a yr back. This is how Allah makes them pay back for the innocent blood that they have shed.
May Allah give his family all the strength to cope up with this tragic loss. Amen
So much of tragedy in the face of such happiness must be crumbling. I really hope and pray God gives his family patience and the will power to over-come this awful episode.
This article is extremely biased in nature. Generalizing "feudals" and calling them derogatory names is unprofessional. The Jatoi in question here is not a feudal, but the son of an industrialist and a businessman. So, it deems the title out of context. Who is to say that he meant to kill the guy? He meant to murder him? He was completely drunk. Maybe he didn't mean it. Maybe he was just trying to show his guts and shoot at the car.. And as a result of pure bad luck, that poor kid got shot. There are no eye witness accounts; nothing. How can such a massive charge be based upon word of mouth?
Blaming someone like this is completely against Islam. Innocent until proven guilty. People need to stop talking about these families in such a way.
It is not necessarily a first degree murder charge. Probably manslaughter. So, please. Remove this article as it is very unfair and out rightly wrong.
I am surprised that a son of a police officer owned a Swift of his own, an apartment at Country Club and was studying in Greenwich University. How much are they paying the Police force these days? Or the income is from somewhere else?
I strongly agree with the title wonder why people are indirectly sympathetic to these feudal's wake up people there is no doubt about the fact that these spoiled feudal's are seen on the Posh roads of Karachi with their guards to show off power they often misuse their power and Police doesn't do anything to them why because most of them are related to xyz MNA MPA. How easily a life is taken by these feudal's and how easily they managed to escape to their village. Sadly in my City Karachi no one is safe not even a DSP officers ONLY son Shahzeb Khan. I may not know you dear but you share my brothers name may you rest in Peace! Down with the Wadery Ka Beta ideology !
First of all I am extremely sad for shahzeb and his parents who lost their son for no reason the person who did it surely has no heart. However this I EXSTREMELY RIDICULOUS OF TRIBUNE EXPRESS TO BLAME SINDHI LORDS there are thousandss of ppeople killed inthis country every year and most of them targets of the dominant karachites (dont want to name the party) However no one has really blamed a certain ethnic group coz of that !! There are good and bad people in every community. So the writer should first grow up and then come up with writing here . We all feel sad for the sufferers but that doesn't mean u put up such hate speech gainst all the sindhi lords ! Get a life.
May Allah give Shahzeb highest place in Jannah ands give his family courage to face it.
A highly ethnic new put forward not by a journalist of substance but by a member of some anti-Sindhi nuts' club.
These efforts by the NYT's subsidiary newspaper in Pakistan are aimed at further fragmentation of the society on ethnic lines and to flare up ethnic sentiments ahead of the elections. This may lead to a show-down in Karachi, where the Army is about to conduct a voters' confirmation "door-to-door" campaign.
What we can say this is just brutality we always raise voice against brutality and injustice in Kashmir, Palestine etc but look what is happening in our own country. I know the real culprits will be free and two guards will take the responsibility. There is no justice and law in country we saw Jang Group reporter Wali Khan Baber Shaheed shot dead in presence of many people and despite of strong support of Jang group culprits and their allied are free and also killed 6 eyewitnesses which includes 3 policeman.
need suo moto action here
and people here on tribune say why the youth supports Imran Khan. My answer to them is 'See that is why!'
may Allah give his family the power to bear this loss and also give punishment to the people who are involved
"what you do...comes back to you...."
Food for thought... Think again...think hard...
May mothers and sisters of shahrukh jatoi and that talpur kid feel the same way soon like shahzebs mother sisters n family did. May they get killed even brutally. They think they have become gods but their loved ones will be taken away in a worse manner. And to all those who are saying that its fake. Get your facts right before writing insensitive comments or just dont comment at all. And to all those who are getting offended by title of the article then pls know this act was done by sindhi feudals. If u are such a nice sindhi why dont you then go help shahazebs family in finding the murderers and prove it that all sindhis arent alikr. M a SINDHI too. And at every given point how we all sindhis like to bribe the system we all know it. So ashamed. And also to those who saying there should be investigation and its a one sided story. Whatever the reason be. MURDER IS A MURDER. THEY KILLED A YOUNG GUY OF A FAMILY because he just swore some words at them
We badly need to push for capital punishment in all murder cases for a decade. This will straighten up the mess of lawlessness and structurally revamp the fear of law in people's minds.
For God sake " hang them in Public " or NUKE us for lasting silence.
RIP brother... but what about the others being targeted everyday and media only shows only the quantity killed toady and yesterday coz they r not living in dha or nt a police officer's son Can we personalize the death of people dying all over Pakistan too from target killing and drone strikes too or is it reserved for our upper classes? Think of it
A very intolerant society with little regard to life. Ignorance now permeates our homes where parents too are losing moral ground. Sad for all but saddest for those who lose loved ones.
RIP.
This shows the mindset of feudals, they think they own everything and everyone just like their lands.
We need someone like V for Vendetta to take each of these people out. There are right-wing reactionaries and I think there is high-time for left-wing militias to weed out these people.
Very sad incident!! Shows the intolerant feudal mindset.
the government is sleeping from so many years why don’t the quit when they can’t handle the situation.
this is brutal! murderers should be punished ;devoid of belonging from the political backgrounds!
This kid was from my university and was a good kid, what has happened is a shame and people need to be held accountable for this and these fuedals need to learn a lesson once and for all.
@Masood Khan: Drone? what they have to do it it? Seems you had weeds in breakfast?
For ALL Feudals - ALL lives come cheap.... that is Feudalism 101
A great friend lost for raising his voice for Injustice, Anybody would have done that if someone did with that his own sister. I can still remember the school memories my bro. May your soul REST IN PEACE and the people who have done this to you shall suffer from Azaab e Ilahi
@Sindh_voice: Dear I personally have witnessed such violations/behaviour 2-3 times on the roads of karachi & also in rural sindh. This behaviour of them is very condemnable
@Khalq e Khuda: You are right not only for Sindhi feudals Sindhi lives come cheap but for feudals anywhere in Pakistan lives and honor come cheap.
This is an extreme shock...!! And, so disturbing...!! We talk about de-weaponizing the state but things have now moved beyond this argument...!! I guess weapons should now be available to each and everyone now..!! For the fact that the person who is coward enough to shoot you, will then have fire to get shot down too. For Shahzeb... I would just say that may you get high levels in Jannah and your murderers might not be guilty here but there, in the next world..they will surely be punished. May his parents especially her mother can bear this huge loss.
catch them, and chop them up limb by limb, bone by bone in a public execution. Public executions is the only way this country will learn. Murderers and terrorists alike should be executed publicly, in the most gruesome and painful way possible. Their screams should be audible and amplified by loud speakers. This is what this country deserves.
@AA: Needs citation!
What a cheap piece of Journalism. The person who wrote this article seems to have made up his mind about who is innocent and who is the culprit before the judge did it. Only facts should have been presented instead of a judgement. Just as Feudals treat life of others as if it doesnt matter, in Pakistan sons of Police officers do the same! Its a case of the kettle calling the pot black.
It is mind blowing that though extremely tragic Express Tribune blankets everything in racist tone. Feudalist mind set of Sindh is indeed problem however, the usage of Sindhi feudal is laced with a racist Sindhi-Muhajir streak.
Let me tell you dear reporter, that for the feudal in Sindh. the Sindhi life comes just as cheap but that wouldn't make it to the fornt of Express Tribune.
Ps: Nothing should mislead anyone that the culprits need to be protected on any count.
@Zalim singh:
here. a link to the memorial page. https://www.facebook.com/JusticeForShahzebKhan So you still think its fake?
During the Ottoman Era before Suleman the Magnificent the ruler at that time had a son. He once had a friendly dual with a jew opponent. He lost to the jew opponent, but the shame did not hold him back and knowing that his father was the ruler of the ottoman empire, he didn't hesitate and killed the jew opponent. His father learned of this and himself ordered that his son be beheaded in the same manner. After that he was severely grieved that he himself died and so did his wife. The moral of this real story is justice even if it be against your own. We are all humans and then muslims its so easy to take life that i'm ashamed of what we have done to this country. Up to the seventies and early eighties it was thriving and developing and has been going in negative growth ever since.
We have lost all forms of humanity. Capital punishment should be carried out against the killers.
They are feudal, it’s their right to do this, what do you guys think it will lead anywhere? If you don’t remember DHA Karachi has the highest number of Rape-cases registered in the city and all ever pointed out were from feudal backgrounds (remember corolla case? Recent incident happened near mohatta palace another feudal son, do you even know about this, no because it was never reported or registered). Whether it’s the dignity of your sisters or the life of yours nothing matters and facts prove that what I am saying is true.
@Chimichanga: All deaths are not numbers or statistics but humans. I agree. But it's not possible to personalise each and every death when the number of people dying is so high. It's sad but my point here is don't make such demands. It has to start from somewhere and some incidents become a point of change. Like Malala, Bilour or may be Shahzeb.
Very sad but the murderers are never gonna be arrested!!!! Mark my words!
The feudal sympathizers must help in finding the culprits and getting them caught. And do something so that these gun carrying trigger happy SOBs can learn to control the misuse of their daddies power and position.
tribune..the title is very, very troubling. please change it.. why put in the karachi vs sindhi color..this is very, very irresponsible. tribune is being managed by amateurs
i knew shahzeb from couple of years amazing personality. it’s been few days that he left us but still we can’t believe that he is no more between us, during this government era they have enlightened the fire by giving the Sindhi feudalism powers and weapons to take anyone life without realizing how their family will suffer. We will continue to protest unless the culprits are hanged and justice is provided to shahzeb family and friends.
I condemn this act but what do you mean Sindh feudals? Doesnt Karachi fall in Sindh? Why the hate campaign against Sindhis. I agree that the "wadairas" have completely lost it but please dont derogate the whole community. Its like calling all muslims terrorists.
@Shahid: the criminal feudal wadera will not be harmed as the feudals rule this country especially sindh and they consider karachi as their occupied land
ET you have a social responsibility to follow up on this story and ensure action is taken against the culprits.
You have manipulated and left out lot of fact that i had garnered from the eye witnesses.manipulative, deceptive media content
A few days back armed men entered the trauma centre of JPMC and shot down an injured man in the hospital. It is not my point whether the shot man had any political affiliations or not, my point is just that it sends chills down my back when I saw the fearless look of the assailant who had shot down the man, and that too in a hospital. I don't think the assailants would have any fear in shooting anyone, even common people, if they had come out to help the person being shot. And that is what the root the problem is in Karachi, no person has any fear of being caught by the police, and getting justice for the dozens killed every day has become a far fetched dream.
Where will it all end to? Do the government or politicians care?
There is no place for feudal lords in pakistan Period
Would this article be even printed if the victim was not the son of DSP. The same DSP would not have registered the FIR if it was some common man's son.
the best we can do, or maybe the first thing the one close to the murderer should do is socially boycott him - and if he's gutsy enough hand him over to the police!
Again, we witness another killing by feudal “lords!” When would we ever realize that feudal “aristocrats” and feudalism are real problems that must be gotten rid of? Who is going to bell the cat? How?
Even the indians that we hate for all the wrong reasons are better human beings than us. The entire nation came out for a helpless girl who was raped recently. Cant we protest against this? How long is this nation going to sleep over injustice. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.
The sardar of Jatois " Ibrahim Jataoi" just live in fromt of Country Club Appartments, now how he will pressurise Shazaib's Parents we all know.
RIP Shazeb God bless you.
This problem has been compounded since 2008. A driver yelled at me near Bilawal house cause i was being cautious on a U turn in heavy traffic. This was 2008. Since then all sorts of large 4x4 vehicles plod along our streets with little regard to traffic rules, have heard stories about other drivers being beaten up for being slow or for just looking at one of these "royal princes" A sad state of affairs here on our streets.
@Karachitite: don't be so naive, we all know they have flats and other such places apart from their big houses and fortresses for their various "other" activities which they prefer to keep out of their "prestigious and honorable" family homes
looks fake to me.
I remember a couple of years back the son of a famous jeweller was drunk and followed a "feudal" home from a party and shot the "feudal's" gatekeeper and brother.... and then escaped... but not to sukkar... the jeweller's son escaped to Dubai....
Must talk of every incident eventually lead to comparisons with drone strikes? Every death is tragic. While no one is denying the cruelty associated with drone strikes, they shouldn't make individual incidents of crime matter any less. Should we stop paying attention to the murders and brutality that happen throughout the country and let criminals roam free, because a foreign country is is bombing regions that our locals have no control over?
And finally, if you want personalised reports of drone/target killing victims, why don't you make arrangements to personally report them? Someone has to do it. Target killing and genocide is bad. But we cannot desensitize ourselves to individual crime events over it.
"democracy by feudals is the best revenge"
@ karachite The culprits didnt use to live at country club they use to live in a bunglow near country club this boy shahzeb used to live in country club. The culprits use to sit at the parking of country club where they use to drink
Very sad indeed, it is even more sad that these culprits will never be caught because of the system we have ! Allah will give justice to Shahzeb, InshAllah !
so sad.
Arrest the killer and hang him in public
And still people want to vote for PPP, MQM, PML-N etc. How many lives we have to lose to awake us and stop voting for these vultures. If we want a change, life security, development, then we have to get rid of these barbarians, or else, keep losing your sons/fathers and witness the rapes of sisters/mothers.
The fact that ET runs this story on top of its website only shows that how exclusive, cut-off, and oblivious our media is getting everyday and especially ET..
Really sad. Even the DSP's family is not safe in the city, what is to be expected for the powerless people?
It is very sad that this young man lost his life and the pain for his family must be terrible. from what I've read in the media I thought "feudals" lived in fortress like houses with 20ft high walls and barbed wire. I didn't know they live in flats... does the country club apartment complex have a separate building or area for them to keep their private jails and personal armies?
Both killers should be arrested immediately, if due to political influence police is facing problem then this is the right case where CJ should take notice and give justice to parents of young man. ET please keep us aware of the developments in the case, this way we all can pressurize police to take action against the culprits.
Sad. Police officers playing in the hands of feudal and politicians must have realised now.
Is this the thousands of years old sindhi culture and civilization that sindhi's boast about all the time. Then its sick and this civilization and its culture should be destroyed
Chimichanga, people like you are pathetic, someone died and you have to put in a senseless unrelated comment. A human life was lost and that is a tragedy. This article is not about drone attacks or other target killings so don't drag that in here. What have you done for people who are dying in target killing and drone attacks?
An act of arrogance and greed. This is an embodiment of the vile mentality of people ruling the country. They obviously do not consider a human as a human, but a mongrel, and continue to have unrestricted freedom from the law. Getting backed up by guards, killing in cold blood, and then escaping to Sukkar is what they do to avoid arrest. May Allah Almighty rest Shahzeb Khan in peace and Paradise. Salams
This brutal act must not go unpunished and while we are at it, why don't we deweaponize Pakistan.
... Supreme Court? ... Suo Moto? ... against this Culture of Impunity ...
If this is true than no less then public hanging for this beast.
Raise the law so that it applies to everyone without fear or favour. . This is the only solution to all our problems.
The sight of blood does not faze Pakistanis. It causes almost no revulsion in a society so used to seeing blood spilled every single day. Even a simple argument can turn deadly with no repercussions.
Feudal need to be caught and hanged. Such a shame that we are still ruled by feudals. Can the anti-feudal parties and civil society raise a voice for this poor boy?
Title is derogatory and report is unfair. ET should take notice of it. Instead of putting two parties in focus, and report facts, here it seems an effort to put blame on whole Sindh and all Feudals. Good and bad people are every, you cant generalize to whole community. This is not reporting but hate campaign. Many Sindhis has been killed in recent days, but no one put it as blame as Sindhi lives come cheap in Karachi?? My humble request is that ET should correct it please.
Sad indeed. Can we personalize the death of people dying all over Pakistan too from target killing and drone strikes too or is it reserved for our upper classes?
