Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf approved on Monday the appointment of Major (retd) Asif Malik Hyatt as the new chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) and the notification of his appointment is likely to be issued within the next 48 hours — immediately after the final approval by the president.
Sources at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat told The Express Tribune on Monday that Premier Ashraf signed the summary two days after Hyatt resigned as secretary to the president to take charge of his new office.
Major (retd) Hyatt was inducted into the civil service directly on an army quota and did not take the Civil Superior Services (CSS) exam.
He served as the Federal Investigation Agency’s director general in 1999, inspector general of Punjab police in 2002 and the federal secretary for Labour and Manpower till May 2012.
A top official in the Presidency also confirmed Hyatt’s approval for the new post. “Considering Asif Malik Hyatt’s track record, the prime minister appointed him to the post of the FPSC chairman and the president is also likely to approve the summary.”
