Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday paid a visit to Railways Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Senator Ilyas Bilour to condole the death of their brother Bashir Ahmad Bilour in a suicide attack on Saturday.
Expressing grief, Gilani said terrorists are targeting leaders of Awami National Party (ANP), and that every political force in the country is facing the same problem.
“The sacrifice of more than 30,000 thousand citizens, security forces and police rendered against terrorism for the sake of peace in the country cannot go to waste,” said Gilani.
He, however, said there was no reason to delay elections, adding that even a country like Afghanistan will conduct elections as per schedule elections. “Pakistan has a better law and order situation than Afghanistan, then why can’t elections be held?”
He added that the parliament has devised a strategy to hold the upcoming general elections. Gilani maintained 2.5 million people in Malakand Division had to migrate to safer areas due to ongoing militancy, but the incumbent government responded promptly and repatriated them within 90 days.
