Domestic Violence: Beaten up ‘for bearing girl again’

HEAD MARALA: A woman had to be taken to hospital, on Sunday night, with severe injuries after she was beaten up, allegedly by her husband and brothers-in-law. Her family says she was beaten up for bearing a girl. According to the FIR registered with the Kotli Loharan police, Sumra, 22, was kicked out of the house by her husband Rashid and brothers-in-law Shahbaz, Shabbir and Irshad. They told police that Sumra’s in-laws were upset with her because she gave birth to a girl a few days ago. They said that Sumra’s husband and his family had kicked her out a year ago too when she gave birth to their first daughter. “They said the daughter would bring bad luck,” said Sumra’s family. The matter had been resolved after neighbours intervened.
