Training course: ‘Technical education is vital for progress’

200 successfully trained in IT, e-commerce skills.

Technical education is vital for progress, Islamia University Bahawalpur’s (IUB) Dr Muhammad Mukhtar said on Saturday.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of an E-commerce and Information Technology (IT) training course, Mukhtar said the IUB was playing its role in providing technical and vocational training to young people through regular and short courses.

The training was arranged by the Punjab Skill Development Fund and the IUB Computer Science and IT Department.

Certificates, tool kits and scholarships were awarded to 200 successful participants of the course on the occasion by chief guest, former MPA Mian Najeebuddin Awaisi.

Mukhtar said the Asian countries, including Pakistan, would soon be in aa position to fulfill the world’s demand of skilled workers. He said short courses in IT, veterinary, engineering, fine arts and agriculture aimed at training unemployed people to fulfill the demands of the market. “There are jobs requiring these skills available in various countries, including the Gulf,” he said. Awaisi said the training would benefit the people of south Punjab.

Skill Development Fund Technical Manager Aftab Ahmed said the government had launched the programme with the collaboration of the UKAid programme and would provide vocational training to 80,000 people in several South Punjab districts, including Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Lodhran and Muzaffargarh.

Islamia University Bahawalpur IT Department Chairman Dr Shahid Naveed appreciated the programme.

Industrialist Rana Muhammad Khalid also attended the ceremony.
