ISLAMABAD:

Prominent lawyer and Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Aitzaz Ahsan has declined a request to represent Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain in the Supreme Court.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Aitzaz said he was approached by an MQM legislator with a request to represent the MQM chief. He added that he excused himself from the request since he was reluctant to appear before a bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.

The Supreme Court recently served Altaf Hussain a contempt of court notice over his remarks which the court considered defamatory. He has been asked to appear before the court in person on January 7, 2013.
