ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman on Tuesday submitted an application to police against five officials of the HEC, whom, he said, were a threat to his life.

Chairman Javed Laghari told the Supreme Court on Monday that the HEC employees had threatened him against entering his office. Subsequently, the court directed I-G Islamabad to provide security to Laghari and his family and take action against the accused employees. Laghari named Finance Adviser Ghulam Mujtaba, Director Administration Dr Mazhar Saeed, Director Zaheer Awan, Deputy Director Finance Ghulam Nabi and Deputy Director Services Nasir Shah as the threatening employees. Hundreds of protesting employees barged into Laghari’s office on December 14, chanting slogans against him over the appointment of HEC Educational Director Sultan Naqvi.
