Handball: Pakistan clinch silver in Asian Trophy

Despite the loss, Pakistan qualified for the IHF Challenge Trophy main round.

KARACHI: Pakistan won the silver medal in the International Handball Federation (IHF) South West Asian Handball Challenge Trophy after losing to India 40-20 in the final in Kathmandu yesterday.

Despite the loss, Pakistan qualified for the IHF Challenge Trophy main round that will be played next year and will be contested by the top eight teams in the world.

Pakistan started their campaign with a 33-27 win against Afghanistan, and overcame Nepal 36-26 in the group matches. They defeated Yemen 33-27 in the semi-finals. Pakistan only lost one match in the tournament while India stayed undefeated and Yemen won the bronze medal in the men’s event.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s women under-21 team, which debuted in the tournament, lost their matches against India and Bangladesh. They defeated Afghanistan 31-13 to secure the fifth position.
