Grand jirga: Governor highlights development initiatives

Announces creation of Shakai as new tehsil.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar on Monday lauded the provincial government’s efforts in launching rehabilitation, reconstruction and development projects to restore peace in the Federal Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

“Peace and development are of vital importance and there is great regard for the sacrifices and cooperation of the tribal people for making this possible,” said Kausar while addressing participants of a joint grand jirga of all tribes of South Waziristan.

During the jirga held in Wana, the governor also announced the creation of Shakai Area as a new tehsil along with the launch of development projects, including the construction of three dams – one each at Chotangi, Tiyarza and Wana.

Appreciating the stance of the tribal people of South Waziristan, the governor said “there is no other option, but to maintain peace and harmony, not only for our own safety and security, but also to ensure a secure future for coming generations.”

Referring to various concerns raised by a prominent elder of the area, Malik Muhammad Ali Tojikhel, the governor pointed out that work on establishment of 81 new primary schools, 45 middle schools, 15 high schools, one degree college and four model schools in Waziristan Agency was in progress.

Kausar added that a total of Rs530 million was being spent on the education sector in the agency.

Similarly, Agency Headquarters Hospital, Wana was being developed at a cost of Rs230 million, while Rs1.05 billion has been earmarked for the establishment of the Grid Station at Wana and construction of Gomal Zam Electricity Transmission Line, he added.

Earlier, Tojikhel thanked the governor for visiting the agency and taking a keen interest in development and stability of the area.
