Once it comes into power, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will empower people to run their schools and police stations in their villages, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said on Sunday.
Khan was addressing a seminar, Justice for Women of Pakistan, organised by PTI at the Aiwan-i-Iqbal in Lahore. Khan said PTI would establish small courts in villages to provide a speedy resolution to cases and give justice to women. “It is in the remote areas where women normally suffer the most and don’t have any means to get justice. These small courts will provide women immediate remedy and give them justice,” he added.
Khan said he was against reserved seats for women in assemblies. “Legislators in assemblies are representatives of the people.
How can some women be representative of women when they haven’t even contested elections? In some areas it is not possible for women to contest elections, but political parties should hold elections within their ranks and promote women into higher leadership positions,” he said.
Khan said people would be given the power to control schools and police stations in their villages so that the system runs efficiently. He said this would be done through local government systems and by decentralising power. “When we say we will make all ghost schools functional, we don’t intend to send the Army to indentify such schools. Locals will do so and they will run the schools,” he added.
Imran Khan said PTI would give women the right to their share in inheritance, and empower them through education. He said NGOs and many foreigners arrange education for women and people think it has an agenda behind it. PTI on the contrary, he said, would talk to locals and establish education institutions for women with their endorsement.
Khan said there had been no co-education in Mianwali, but when Namal College was established locals were taken into confidence and the co-ed institution was now running successfully.
He said PTI would empower women but not “in the Western sense”. “In the West, they have nullified the due respect and stature for the mother. Housewives are looked down upon there and there is no dignity and respect for mothers,” he added.
He said women entrepreneurs would be offered special loans, transport facilities for women would be improved and day care centres would be established for working women – under a PTI government.
“Literacy amongst women will be prioritised and the budget will be increased five-fold from the current meagre levels of less than 2 per cent. Literacy levels in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa where the current literacy rate is 8 per cent will be addressed,” he added. He said that, “PTI would be the first political party to train women on psychological, legal and political issues and how to handle them.”
He added that career counselling would be provided for female students in colleges and universities and a five per cent quota in jobs would be allocated to disabled women.
Justice (retired) Nasira Javed Iqbal highlighted the legal position of women in various sectors of life including the political and legal arena. Psychiatrist Dr Saad Bashir Malik discussed the psychological traumas that women have to go through as a result of being singled out from birth as being inferior and treated as a burden throughout their life.
Social worker and women’s rights activist Seemi Raheel spoke about the exploitation of women in the media. She said advertisements, dramas and news items constantly reinforce the idea that women are of secondary value by restricting them to the role of looking good.

the idea is somewhat good, but the case is conditional IF, they come in power while. that is the major concern how to come in government.
@Abubakar Umer:
Your one the person who would vote for people like nawaz sharif or zardari. Every choice we make defines our future. Your future lies with corruption and looters. How charming. Dont you want for pakistani women to express themselves? You would watch Hollywood movies and probably bollywood as well and yet people will say pakistani women cant do that. Yes they cant but there are other ways. Islam doesnt forbid women from anything other then to make sure they main parts are covered. It is similar in sports whether it is swimming or volleyball, As long as their main part is covered feel free to play any sport. In Pakistan women start swimming or start playing volleyball on the beach people will start to judge, talk and become violent towards women. My point is, give Pakistani women a chance, let them make choices and improve themselves and improve the image of Islam towards how women should treated and proceed. If Imran Khan is winning I will personally travel all the way from England and vote.
There was a quote above include before exclude. My question to you is how can you include before exclude if you dont even give them a chance. Like I said its our choices that define our future.
I am totally agree with Imran Khan's stance. The current women in parliament are not genuine representation of common Pakistani women. Here is a link to old article on same issue: http://tribune.com.pk/story/403638/reserved-seats-for-women/
Apparently, No female legislature is willing to fight an electoral battle to get into National Assembly because it will require many days of electioneering and harsh condition of Pakistan cities and villages. No Political party is willing to back this policy because this will empower women in Pakistani society to question men about Family law and Pakistan Penal Code, regarding crime against women. Political Parties also use this reserve seat sham to increase wealth of family and friends by nominating Wife's, Mother's, Sister in law's, Sister's, Daughter's, Niece's, and a Nationally recognized women. This Political practice is also used to gain hegemony over their vote for any legislature by Male legislator's who are considered either and Elder's, Father's, Brother's, Husband's, Brother in Law's or Nominating Political leader who choose you for the reserve seat.
When women do not have representative role in society as well as parliaments there should be provision to hear their voices in Assemblies. it can be through reserved seats or nomination of reputed personality or any other process acceptable to the people but it should be there
Imran Khan @ImranKhanPTI Reserved states are necessary for woman but I am in favour of direct elections to them rather than nominations on a list
I actually OPPOSE ANY kind of reserved seats for women, whether through direct elections or any other method. "Reserved seats" fly in the face of democracy. On the other hand, women should be educated and should be able to participate in the elections freely. If the enviornment is difficult for this today, then we should work toward changing it. Women should protest, make lobby groups etc - they are a big chunk of voters. But reserved seats will NEVER help them. No true democracy in the world have reserved seats.
I totally agreed with Mr. Khan view.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman, Imran Khan addressing a seminar “Justice for Women,” at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Lahore never said that he is against reserved seats for women in the parliament as misquoted in several newspapers. This is to clarify to the media; Imran Khan said that instead of women taking the reserved seats based on nomination lists a special election specifically for women alone should be held for the reserved seats so as to ensure genuine women representation. The intra-party election of PTI is proof of the fact that the reserved seats for women are also being contested for. Khan holds that legislators in the assembly are representative of the people and the women on reserved seats should be truly representative of their lot.

1st of all Imran Khan Should provide justice to his suspected daughter Tyrian White. Imran Khan sahab has shown no concern towards Tyrian but for the sake of women rights. He should at least take the blood tests.
IK did not oppose women reserve seats. He fully supports their reserved seats. He opposed the mechanism of choosing women for those reserved seats. They should be elected by local people and not by the party leadership.
When ever IMRAN Khan/PTI makes any policy announcement, then so called intellectuals and great thinkers start critcising the contents but what about the other parites which do not have any policy statement and continued with dirty politics.
Dear all please kindly look at the below three tweets from Imran Khans twitter feed. He also stated the same in his speech. Also he said was that women would remain on reserved seats however instead of having those seats allocated between different parties and allocated to party nominees they would be elected directly by the women of Pakistan i.e. women themselves would vote for the occupants of these reserved seats. He has also stated the same for minority seats saying that minorities of Pakistan should be able to elect their own representatives rather than having them appointed by party leaders and in many cases leaders who themselves are Muslim and not aware of the difficulties faced by such communities.
@ImranKhanPTI: @MominaKhawar no Momina. I am in favour of reserved seats for women but instead of nominations on lists should be directly elected
@ImranKhanPTI: Similarly reserved seats for minorities can also be better filled through direct election instead of nominations
@ImranKhanPTI: Reserved states are necessary for woman but I am in favour of direct elections to them rather than nominations on a list
I totally agree with IK this issue women comes on reserved seats sell there imaan 2 come 2 the assemblies they get black mailed by different party leaders & even some leaders in the party take advantage of them so moral of the story is women law maker should be elected by awam nt selected by party heads .
Imran Khan is a confused guy when it comes to issues other then foreign policy. This
subservient and ridiculous foreign policy must change if we have to get out of this mess.
How can people still not vote for him (PTI)?
'Imran Khan said PTI would give women the right to their share in inheritance, and empower them through education'. -we have a law. it needs to be implemented.
'Khan said he was against reserved seats for women in assemblies. “Legislators in assemblies are representatives of the people. How can some women be representative of women when they haven’t even contested elections? In some areas it is not possible for women to contest elections, but political parties should hold elections within their ranks and promote women into higher leadership positions,” he said'. -yes but untill they do, what do we (women) do? languish in the outer regions without any representation at all??
he needs more infor and knowledge.... get to it!
All pro women legislation became possible due to women on reserved seats; which world is he living in
@Zainab: Out of curiosity, do you even know that we are officially a security state and our disproportionate defense spending as well as terrorism (which is tied to law & order) policy is deeply inter-twined with our foreign policy? So, expecting any political party to fix domestic law enforcement and economy without fixing hawkish foreign policy will be too naive of an assumption. I think your fears about IK's handling of foreign policy are misplaced. See his recent interview in India on Aaj Tak and you will be surprised how smooth and calm he is when it comes to representing Pakistan's future direction to the outside world.
First include and then try such exclusionary things, Mr. Khan!
Exactly. What these political parties do is that they get their daughters, bahu's, and sisters to get nominated through these reserved seats and no good is done to a common woman. They should have elections for reserved seats and only woman can participate in that elections rather than nominations.
Great work PTI...I was so looking forward to it...I can only hope that IK bashing liberals have a heart big enough to appreciate this step of PTI
what all these women with him will do. afsoos ho ga
before coming to any conclusion please read imran khan's tweets on this issue
I agree that local village courts are super-effective. Just look at what the panchayats have already achieved. Nope, no women paraded naked in the streets thus far.
Instead of trying to merge them with the rest of the civilization, we further isolate them as their own princely states. Marvelous.
Red Flag For Fozia Kasuri, and others PTI womens
It was quite expected from IK. Everyone knows him well when it comes about Women. His statement reflects the arrogance and ridiculing the efforts of women. Women like Marvi Memon, Anusha Rehman, Zakia Shahnawaz have been doing great work for the rights of the women. Why do we have senators ? I guess IK needs to work over the basics of running and handling a society before expediting for politics & aim to run the country. His confusion is quite evident now & everyone must be wary of these facts. Pakistan needs a clear headed leadership with experience & sincerity & competence.
May the youth realizes & sees his true face before committing any mistake.
The man has given me another reason, 'Why I should never vote for him'.
Whats the problem with Imran's foreign policy. All he says is that we should talk to Taliban and co in order to rectify the problem. No more drones that's fine as well. Less involvement of America so whats wrong with that. People the guy is talking sense but as far as I have seen intellectuals of Pakistan are skeptical of Imran just for the sake of skepticism. Please come out of this paralysis by analysis.
This is quite a ridiculous statment by Mr. Khan. I don't know who advises him on such stupid things. For his kind information, the women contribution in the assembly has been quite remarkable & I guess his performance as MNA from 2002 -07 is quite questionable... where he didn't even dare to speak more than twice & didn't present any bill that could make Mianwali life better.
God save Pakistan from such naive cricketers aiming for running the country.
Imran Khan is right.
PTI stands for protection of rights of women, minorities and juvenile.
@Nadeem S: He never said that "Taliban" (btw TTP is not the Afghan Taliban) should be given a free passage, the ones who do not put away their arms will be dealt with force, he said that clearly.
Logical
Let's have a system where IK gets to govern everything except for foreign policy. He looks after domestic/national improvement while someone else (army? they interfere and dictate this anyway no matter who is in power) officially looks after foreign policy/drones etc. We would be so much better off with that arrangement.
Thats absolutely right, I dont agree with him on Taliban and drones, but on this i highly agree.
