QUETTA:

A bomb targeting Balochistan Constabulary commandant, Khalil Zehri, went off in the Sariab Road area on Friday, injuring eight people including a constabulary member.

The remote controlled device placed outside a hotel near the Degree College in a bicycle was so intense that it severely damaged several vehicles in close vicinity. The vehicle of the Balochistan Constabulary was also damaged.

Soon after the blast the Frontier Corps cordoned off the area. The security in other red zone areas was also beefed up.

“We’ve deployed security personnel in civilian dress across the red zone areas so they can keep guard,” said DIG Investigation Hamid Shakeel.

An official from the Bomb Disposal Squad informed The Express Tribune that the explosives used in the blast weighed around 5-7 kilogrammes.

The injured identified as Sabir Ali, Muhammad Nawaz, Gulam Rasool, Haji Shams, Abdul Hakeem, Alam Shah, Muhammad Usman, Maqsood Ahmed and Shabir Hussain were shifted to the Quetta Civil Hospital.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
