KARACHI: Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) is planning to launch its first National Squash Academy in Islamabad next year in association with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

A PSF official confirmed that planning for the academy has begun and the work will start next month.

“The academy will be the first of its kind in Pakistan and is a major project that the PSF wants to complete,” the official told The Express Tribune. “Long gone are the days when we used to get talented players like Qamar Zaman, Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan. We need to work on the grass-root level if we want to produce world champions once again.”

PSF Secretary Abdul Wahab Marwat confirmed that the project has been discussed with the PSB and funds from them and PSF will help build the academy in the Roshan Khan Squash Complex.

“The idea is to build an academy of international standard where players can be groomed and educated,” said Marwat.
