QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly member Mir Bakhtiar Khan Domki survived an assassination attempt in Bolan district on Wednesday.

Domki was attacked by unidentified assailants while he was heading to Quetta from his hometown Lehri, he told journalists upon reaching the provincial capital. He said the attackers fired more than two dozen rockets at his convoy in Bolan district’s Bibi Nani area, partially damaging the vehicle he was travelling in. Domki’s guard returned fire, allowing the MPA and his entourage to escape the attack.

Following the incident, the MPA lambasted the province’s security agencies.

“If we are not safe here, how can the common people of Balochistan be safe,” an irate Domki questioned rhetorically.

He claimed that despite the fact the area where the attack took place is regularly patrolled by the Frontier Corps and other security agencies, they had no clue as to who the attackers were.

“I will not take any action at the government level since it appears helpless as far as security goes,” Domki told reporters, adding that he will investigate the attack through the tribal network.

Tragedy visited Domki earlier as well, when his wife and daughter were gunned down in Karachi on January 31. The shooters showed no interest in valuables the deceased women had been carrying and killed them in cold blood.

Domki’s wife was the sister of Baloch Republican Party president Nawabzada Bramdagh Bugti.
