Blast: Two teenagers injured as ‘toy’ goes off

ATTOCK:

Two teenage boys were injured when an explosive device blew up in their home on Wednesday.

Police said the two brothers, Tauqeer Abbas, 16, and Zaheer Abbas, 14, found the device while they were out gathering fodder for their cattle. They brought home the device thinking it was a toy, but when they tried to pry it open, the device started giving off smoke and exploded. Both the boys received multiple burn injuries and were taken to a private hospital for treatment.

A similar device was found by another villager in the area, but he was quick to inform the police, which brought in the Bomb Disposal squad and safely diffused it.

District Police Officer (DCO) Attock Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi visited the site of the explosion and ordered an inquiry into the incident. Talking to The Express tribune, Rizvi said the devices might have been left by oil exploration companies. He said he has ordered a search operation to uncover all such devices in the area and properly dispose them off.
