Targeted killings: Spate of gun attacks leaves 12 dead

Policeman, political activists among the victims.

KARACHI: Motorcycle-riding assassins had another field day in Karachi as they gunned down 12 people, including two political workers and a police inspector, while injuring at least four others on Wednesday.

In Baldia Town, sub-inspector Mukhtiar Jamaluddin, 45, was shot dead on his way to the Saeedabad police station, where he had been posted for the past 13 years, said SHO Gulshan Junejo.

An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Abid Raza, 35, was shot dead in Paper Market. A sub-inspector of the Pakistan Customs anti-smuggling unit, Syed Bhawal Shah, 50, and his 25-year-old nephew Syed Baqar Shah were gunned down in Labour Colony.

In Al-Noor Society, a leader of Bengali Action Committee, 32-year-old Zubair aka Doctor, was shot dead.

In Mithadar, a shopkeeper, Asif Abdul Hafeez, 25, was gunned down inside his shop by armed motorcyclists. A three-day old body was found from Ghaziabad in Orangi Town, Pakistan Bazaar police said. The body of Imtiaz Ikhlaq, 40, was found from Maripur Road. No cause of death has been confirmed.

A factory worker, Abdul Ghaffar, 28, died while his colleague, 26-year-old Sohail Manzur, was wounded in Rasheedabad, said the SITE B Section police. A clearing and forwarding agent, Munir Shah, 50, was shot dead near Allahwali Chowrangi.

A hawker, Tasleem Azam, was shot dead in Rizvia Society. Haji Iqbal, 70, was stabbed to death inside his flat in Gulitan-e-Jauhar.
