ISLAMABAD: The court can only give suggestions when it comes to presidential references, stated the Supreme Court on Wednesday during the hearing of the said reference on appointment of superior court judges, Express News reported.

In the reference, President Asif Ali Zardari has sought clarity on his role in the appointment of judges. Filed through the federation’s counsel, Wasim Sajjad, the reference contained 13 points.

Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, heading a five-judge bench, heard the reference today, while the federation’s counsel argued his points.

Sajjad asked the court to summon the four advocate generals of the provinces as well as the president Supreme Court Bar in this regard.

The federation’s lawyer further said that judges are considered senior on the basis of their ages in countries like India and Bangladesh.
