Education for all: VC calls for funds to complete development projects

SALU helped spread education among youth in rural areas.

The Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU), Khairpur, needs funds to ensure that the development projects are completed on time, said vice chancellor Prof. Dr Parveen Shah.


She was visiting the ongoing development projects of the university. “Besides imparting quality education to the youth in rural areas, SALU has also spread knowledge and wisdom among the students,” said Shah.

The project manager, Imdad Ali Sial, briefed the VC about the quality and progress of the work. “The construction work of the model school, at an estimated cost of Rs41 million, will be completed by September 2013. Over 1,000 students will be educated there till intermediate level,” said Sial. He added that the Benazir Bhutto Chair is also being established, at an estimated cost of Rs23 million, with the assistance of the Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah, and that the Sindh government has so far released Rs6 million.

“The construction of an indoor games facilities for students and staff will also begin soon and will cost an estimated Rs38 million.” He added that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has, however, only released Rs17 million.

He stated that a ministerial staff hostel is also being constructed and will be completed in December 2013.

On this occasion, the VC demanded the authorities of the HEC to release the development grants of the university in order to complete the remaining work and highlighted that the engineering wing expedite the remaining work with quality assurance and complete the projects within the given time frame.
