
The search committee tasked with finding the next vice chancellor (VC) of NED University of Engineering and Technology forwarded names of four applicants to Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Monday.
After interviewing eight candidates on Sunday, the search committee settled on Prof. Dr Muzaffar Mahmood, pro-vice chancellor at NED University, Dr Muhammad Afzal Haque, director at NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology in Multan, Prof. Dr Nazimuddin Qureshi, NED Academy director-general, and Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, a professor at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology. The governor will now tap one of four candidates to lead the engineering institution for the next four years.
Around 15 candidates have applied to the top position at NED University, which is being held by 90-year-old Engr Abdul Kalam, who is the longest serving vice chancellor in public sector universities in Pakistan.
The VC search committee is members include Karachi University VC Prof. Dr Mohammad Qaiser, Dow University of Health Sciences VC Prof. Masood Hameed Khan, Institute of Business Administration director Dr Ishrat Husain, Ziauddin University VC Prof. Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Isra University Hyderabad VC Dr Qazi Asadullah, and a representative of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
