PARIS: Formula One’s (F1) governing body, the FIA, is to introduce a radical set of changes for 2013. The changes aim to introduce more efficient engines, ground-effect aerodynamics and road-relevant technologies to F1 cars.

The teams have agreed to use 1.6 litre, four cylinder turbo engines, limited to 10,000 rpm and producing approximately 650bhp, according to F1 magazine GP Week. A fuel flow-rate limit will also be introduced to ensure the engines are less wasteful compared to the current engines. Sidepods, which are the two lower areas on either side of the car that house the electronics and radiators in the car, will also be moved forwards to increase driver protection, while the size of the wheel rims is expected to increase.
