Stretching airways: Boeing flights soon to land at DI Khan airport

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Boeing flights from Peshawar and Lahore will soon resume operating at the DI Khan airport after the runway is broadened.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General visited the airport and said it will soon be renovated and new furniture for the passenger lounge will be brought in.

The DI Khan airport was closed down in 2002 because of security problems in the area and remained closed for almost six years. It was reopened for traffic in 2008 under a special grant and the roads leading to the airport were also constructed.

A new LCD television screen and a computer system for the sitting area has been set up.

During the inspection, Kundi said that they are also planning on extending the runway and the project has been added to the Public Sector Development Programme.

The deputy speaker also said that the increase in flight quota for the airport was under consideration and very soon there will be more Umra flights.
