Competitive fun: Orphaned children enjoy sports gala

RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) arranged a Sports Gala on Saturday for children from Sweet Home orphanages, providing an avenue of entertainment to the youngsters.

As many as 600 children from Sweet Homes and 37 other schools from the twin cities took part in the colourful event, which included 100 and 200 metre races, tricycle and sack races.

In lieu of parents, a good number people from the twin cities visited the sports event to cheer on the children, most of whom were between four to seven years.

The chief guest, PBM Managing Director Zamurd Khan, appreciated the spirit of the young athletes from Sweet Homes.



The MD said it was pleasant to see the marginalised children confidently contesting against students from other schools and performing well.

Khan said the training and support provided to the children at Sweet Homes had encouraged them to confidently participate in the sports event.

“The physical and mental health of these children is not as good as that of a child having both parents. The parental atmosphere for orphaned children at Sweet Homes boosts their confidence and makes them productive citizens,” he said.

The only real hitches on the day were that event managers could not announce the results of the games and the ceremony for prize distribution was also delayed.
