Detention: PHC rejects alleged robber’s, hashish consumer’s bail plea

Police arrested the four robbers after Ghulam Muhammad filed a case at Tangi police station.

PESHAWAR:

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday refused the bail request of a Charsadda resident, who planned and executed a robbery at a retired school teacher’s house along with his three accomplices.

Police arrested the four robbers after Ghulam Muhammad, the retired school teacher, filed a case at Tangi police station, Charsadda.

The alleged robber, Sajjad’s co-conspirators, accused of looting cash and 197 grammes of gold, confessed to the robbery during initial investigations. Muhammad also alleged that the accused assaulted  him during the robbery when he tried to resist.

Sajjad was the mastermind of the heist and contacted his accomplices on April 26 asking them to join him, the other accused men told the police.

Hearing the case, PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhmmad Khan refused Sajjad’s bail request, observing that the accused knew that Muhammad was the only male member in the house.

In a separate case, the court rejected the bail request of Sabir Shah, the driver of a car which had 16 kilogrammes of hashish hidden underneath its front seat. The bail request of the passenger, Dr Khan, was however accepted.
