HARIPUR:

An extortionist who threatened to blow up an industrial unit in Hattar was arrested on Wednesday. He has been identified as Dilawaiz Khan, 21, of Pind Gujran village.

According to the police, Khan called up a senior officer of Qarshi Industries Hattar, demanding that the company pay him Rs1.5 million in cash or he will blow up the factory, which employs around 2,000 workers.

The factory management called the police, which while pretending to be company officials, told the extortionist that they will fulfil his demands, only to lure him into a trap.

A police constable, attired in a factory worker uniform, went to the designated area. When the extortionist arrived to collect the cash, a police team overpowered and arrested him.

The accused said he was fed up of his parents taunting him for being jobless even after graduation so he decided to blackmail “millionaire industrialists.” Police registered a case against him and obtained a three-day physical remand.
