Chief of his own faction of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif expressed concern over the law and order situation in Karachi on Tuesday, saying that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its allies were not sincere about restoring peace to the city.
Nawaz said that the PML-N joined the government in 2008 in the interest of the country and its people, but seeing the lack of interest by the federal government in solving the public’s problems and its failure to keep its promises, the PML-N quit the government within a few weeks.
The party chief pointed out that the Supreme Court had recently ordered action against the militant wings of different political parties but the government has made no progress in this regard.
Nawaz added that law and order can be restored in Karachi only through a neutral administration and a police force which is free from political pressure.
The PML-N president expressed these views while talking to a delegation from Sindh, led by former chief minister Liaquat Jatoi in Raiwind. Former PPP provincial minister Abdul Hakeem Baloch, former PTI minority wing leader Michael Javed and former PPP president Jacobabad Aslam Abru, amongst others, all joined the PML-N on Tuesday.
Nawaz said that the PML-N will field strong candidates in Sindh in the forthcoming general elections and added that he would visit Sindh, including Karachi, very soon.
