KARACHI: The Greater Karachi Sewage Treatment Plan (S-III) has been completed with the help of a British consultancy firm, WS Atkins. President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to inaugurate the project within this month, said Karachi Water and Sewage Board managing director Misbahuddin Farid. “Untreated water was a danger to marine life and was also putting environment at risk. Because of this, the PC-I of the S-III project was formulated and approved on the directions of former mayor Syed Mustafa Kamal in 2007,” said a press release. A budget of Rs17 billion has been allocated for the project. Upon completion, 550 million gallons of sewerage would be treated daily before being discharged into the Arabian Sea.
