Radio: Independent stations launch own association

Group will represent 65% of all private FM radio stations licensed by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.

A total of 30 broadcasters representing 71 FM stations from across the country and Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir formally launched the Pakistan Association of Independent Radio Stations (PAIRS). The elections for its first office bearers was also held, said a press release.


The group will represent 65% of all private FM radio stations licensed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.

They elected 18 office bearers including six members of the Leadership Council and 11 members of the Executive Council. All 71 stations were declared founding members of PAIRS.

After his election, PAIRS President Shaikh Wasim said the association will support the principles of freedom of expression and association and promote professionalism in the radio sector and protect the interests of listeners.

Intermedia ED Adnan Rehmat said the newly launched association should strive to put the interests of the listeners and local communities at the forefront.
